um... he has made 27 starts this season

Ireland should have won young player of the year, imo

Complete make up call in terms of Giggsy and his career, but whatever. I'm happy for him, and he has done well this season. My choice would have been Lampard, but it is what it is.

    Good job Giggsy :D

He shouldn't even have been nominated. I'm happy for him and it's a makeup call but it's bullshit nontheless. Utter bullshit.

Gerrard did not merit his annual nomination as Alonso was better.

Career award or not, I love it. If he had retired without it, it would of been a bigger wrong.

Doubt the Writer's give him their award so Vidic should get something.

Got to agree. Doesn't make too much sense. Shows some lack of intelligence, or simple arrogance, in how they choose who was best during the season.

Of course, still a good award for someone to acquire.

and he did play well from about december to march or so

i thought Vidić would win it tbh or vdS with his streak but while i dont think its the right decision i cant help but be delighted for him. at 35 being reborn in central midfield and possibly winning 4 trophies in one year. wonderful

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the players themselves vote for the PFA Player of the Year? If so it'd be hard to call it a make up.

Giggs has been great this season but I'm not sure I'd give him the GrodZilla Player of the Year award but that one's never been that prestigious anyway ;)

However the old man deserves everything that comes his way... Legend is too small a word these days...

Why would Alonso's form mean Gerrard does not warrant a nomination? Do you mean Gerrard did not deserve to win the award because Alonso has been better?

    Alonso better than Gerrard? Funny.

At least even ManYoo fans know Giggs got this off pity rather than actually deserving it.

Seems that Gerrard ain't really that popular among his peers. Hopefully only United players voted for him.

Looking for info on the PFA Player of the Year award, and ended up in our forum (again), eh?

Or maybe you were looking to discuss this years' European Cup...

Alonso has been better than him this season and I think other players were more deserving of a nomination. Gerrard, for whatever reason, is always nominated for these things by default.

This season? Without a doubt. Ignorance of your own team now. Can you get any lower?

Anyone come across a video of the ceremony yet. Read that Giggsy got like a 5 minute ovation from the people there.

    Completely agree with you teso.

Anyways, the simple fact is that no-one has had a season like RvN (01-02), Henry (02-03,03-04) or Ronaldo (06-07,07-08) to be the obvious choice to win it. In the absence of any outstanding candidates, awarding it to a legend who has also had a pretty good season (statistically, most assists per minute in the league) makes a lot of sense.

Scholes should of won it in 02-03. Scored 14 in the league and kept the midfield together while Keane missed half the season and Veron continued to dissapoint.
