Hmmm, http://www.oddschecker.com/football...p/barclays-premiership/pfa-player-of-the-year A big plunge on betfair for Giggsy. Is there a leak (or a reported one) somewhere? Edit: Coral suspend betting... http://www.betastic.co.uk/gambling_news-bookmaket-suspends-betting-on-pfa-after-flurry-on-giggs.htm
Might've just been someone's intention all along. Manipulate the market with a few bets on Giggs, everyone thinks he's a good thing then follows on, Vidic and Gerrard go on the drift as a result.... Do I need a tin foil hat? Certainly possible anyway. Giggs now slding out a touch. Was 1.33 earlier, 1.5 now.
I certainly think so; a couple of grands can easily swing the market on betfair. Then, you hope (or probably ensure) that it gets picked up on forums etc. where people pick up on it and do the rest for ya.
According to The Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/apr/26/premierleague-manchester-united PFA Player's Player of The Year Ryan Giggs PFA Young Player of The Year Ashley Young PFA Team of The Year Edwin van der Sar; Glen Johnson, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra; Ashley Young, Steven Gerrard, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo; Nicolas Anelka, Fernando Torres I am surprised by both of those. I thought it should have gone to Vidic and Ireland respectively. The omission of Rooney from the team of the year is another strange one.
Ireland missing out was completely ridiculous though you again need to take in the fact that the awards were voted in Feb when Villa and Young hadn't gone off the boil. In a season with no outstanding candidates, Giggs finally winning it makes sense.
The Guardian have had it up for a while (during the BS blackout) but it has not appeared anywhere else yet, not even on the official PFA site.
It gets leaked usually the day before it is announced. There were a few articles that said Giggs is set to win it. I thought Ireland would have got the young player award. I'm surprised Lampard isn't in there, or is it that the team of the year has to be like a 442?
Was on SSN, Setanta now picking it up on their web service.. http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Football/2009/04/26/PFA-Player-of-the-Year/gnid-50359/
Probably that performance against Chelsea that put Giggs back in everyone's mind. Obviously a bit of a lifetime achievement award here, but if anyone deserves something like that, it's Giggs.
Don't they have one of those? I'm almost positive that George Best was posthumously awarded it in 2006. Will be interesting to see who got it if it's still going.
I know what you mean, Liverpool fans have started to say it is fixed and that Giggs should have won a lifetime achievement award not this, which is a bit stupid as lifetime achievements usually go to people like Sir Bobby Charlton. Giggsy does deserve it, fantastic, I thought it would be Vidic/Gerrard though.
First the BBC wasted time by posting articles containing Terry's whining and now finally, when you can be bothered to report the PFA Awards their link goes straight to a 404 error. To think that I help to fund that shite...
