That would be awesome, but is he injury prone? He seems to have only played 35 or so games in the past two seasons... he's unprotected for the expansion draft, lets hope Seattle doesnt grab him first...
He reminds me of Dave Watson, a classic English cd who must have played for half a dozen teams in the old First Division -- have cleats, will travel! My late wife adored him; It would be great to have him back.
you can remove the question mark from that title.... http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2008/11/petke-set-to-return-to-new-york.html
At his age, I hope he's got enough left in the tank. I think of Agoos' last season and I cringe. And I hope the shyte they play on at the swamp doesn't destroy him.
I was going to open a thread to talk about this topic, but thanks. I have to say that I'm so happy that Mike Petke is back with us. He represents the spirit of the NY.NJ Metrostars. I'm happy for him and for us. He will play at the new stadium for sure. Welcome Mike, I hope u stay in the organization for life.
I think the biggest concerns are about his age and if he's injury prone. As far as I know, he's only had one major injury in his whole career. And it seems from watching him play that he's come back from that nicely. As for age, I remind you that Eddie Pope was still a rock, nay, a mountain of granite in the back line until he retired. And he still had a few years left in him in my opinion. And there is Claudio Suarez. The dude is almost my age, for Pete's sake! And he's still played pretty well at age 40. I think the big question is how he takes over the defense. If he can get control and respect from the current bull kids, he'll be exactly what we need. (Ok, one of a few things that we need. )
Does anybody know what happened to Petke's "Revenge Is Coming" shirt that was hanging at Nathan Hale's? Is it still there? If it is, then shouldn't it be moved to Nevada Smith's? Then again, I don't know if they'd move any of their Manchester United crap for the holy grail of Metro collectibles.
