http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/apr23b.html At 34yo is he too old or is he still a solid stopper?
He's still a really good keeper (as demonstrated on Wednesday), he's just out injured too frequently. I still have a soft spot for the Juve ex - after all, he won the European championship with them in 1996 - but I can't forget the sight of him watching wistfully as the ball sailed over his head on Lars Rickens' first touch as a substitute for Borussia Dortmund's 3rd goal in the '97 CL Final.
He was huge in la porta today. I watched the match vs. Inter and Peruzzi personally kept it level at nil with some amazing stops. He looked like he 24 years old today.
Its good that he's staying, but was there a big worry that he was leaving? We would be screwed with Sereni in goal, however.
Trap called Peruzzi to the Italy squad for Wednesday's Spain friendly. Not sure if he's really considering him for the a spot in Portugal, or if he's just in keeping with the old geezer theme since it's Baggio's farewell match. IIRC, for Euro2000, he turned down the #3 keeper's role.
very glad he's staying, but your right there wasn't a big market for him. I have to admit I thought he was finished toward the end of last season, had a horrible showing in the UEFA Cup SF loss....but he's played very well. Going to be an interesting finish to this season...
