I haven't been able to nail down the exact number yet, but Peru-Ecuador got 30K and change. I demand the MetroStars work their asses off to get this as well. (The match was damn good, by the way. Didn't hear any fanaticos complaining.)

101 had no trouble vocalizing that night, believe me. Nobody needed a couple of idiots with drums roaming through the stands to get anyone going. And any kids there weren't playing with their nachos and cheese, they were paying attention to the match.

I think the only shot the MetroStars have to get this is the June 21 match against the Galaxy, so no excuses. Show the hell up!

Great , Great match.... that second goal scored by Peru was simply world class.

Atmosphere was superb and the play on the pitch was a quick and electrified as the fans were. If only every Metros home game was like this match.

A few fights in the stands and some people were tossed but then again you have to look at the history of these two countries to understand where the antimosity comes from.

Can't blame the Metros for the difference in turnouts though... I spoke with a few of the fans in the stands and most seemed to agree that the MLS just isn't what it should be. I can't agrue it, everyone has their own opinion...but in a few years when the money is better in the MLS we'll be experiencing the same atmosphere.

I'm waiting to see how many Man U actually draws at Giants Stadium next month.

Then I'm going to demand both Peru and Ecuador and any other non-Metro teams work their asses off to get these kinds of numbers as well

Last month Daily news or some paper mention that less than 8,000 tickets were left. That's when i decided to buy(4) that day. Should I have bought them 1 week prior I would have gotten better seats. I'm looking forward to a sold out match.

Chicken, meet egg. If 30,000 show up every game, the money will be there, salaries will rise, play will improve, a paying TV contract will happen...

What's everyone's prediction for what Peru-Ecuador will draw next week?

Well, obviously 30k blew their cash on the only soccer day to show support for their homeland/heritage with a bunch of others showing their pride.

The metros have to get people to consistently see, well, a hodgepodge of americans and 2nd rate internationals play against another team of americans and 2nd rate internationals, with nothing on the line because only DC and somebody else will miss the playoffs.

While I want to see more than 30k each week, its a tougher job.

30k is pathetic for two national teams who come to this area once a year.

No kidding, I know a few "taxi" companies in Newark ( for those that aren't aware this means 2 cars, 6 Equadorian imigrants in one apartment) that took the night off.

This also counts for the clear roads near newark airport;)

Condor 11, i must disagree...It's been yrs Peru has not been to the NJ-NY area (10-15?)...where the largest community of Peruvians live- outside the country itself....From what i've heard, less than half of the fans were from Peru ,so that's what 10-12K....I could not go because of work. but it seems we might not be seeing Peru's NT in NJ in another decade or so, if this is all the people it can draw after such a long time in a stadium that is quite expensive to boot

The fact of the matter is it outdrew the Metros at far higher prices. There was only one chance for Peru-Ecuador to do this. There are 15 chances for the MetroStars. Let's see them pull it off. Next week should be their best opportunity, with the LA Galaxy coming in on a Saturday afternoon. And if they do it, you can thank the Koreans and Latinos.

    Good luck. :D
