Perth Glory of the Aussie NSL were docked three points for using an ineligible player at the start of the season against Paramatta. Does anyone know what the circumstances were?

    Glory face SA verdict
    Sportal January 28

Perth Glory coach Mich d'Avray says he isn't worried Soccer Australia could decide his team's National Soccer League minor premiership chances.

The Glory face a hearing before the governing body on February 4, with the three points they won in round one against Parramatta Power on the line because they allegedly played German import Andre Gumprecht when he wasn't registered.

Perth is currently on 41 points after its 1-1 draw with Sydney United, but blew the chance to extend the lead to five points following the second-placed Olympic Sharks' 2-1 loss to Newcastle.

But even though a loss of the round one points could give the Sharks the minor premiership, and six points for the start of the 10-week finals series, D'Avray told AAP he is resigned to whatever happens at the hearing.

"I'm not worried because there's nothing I can do to change it," D'Avray said.

"I'll be hugely disappointed if they do take three points from us because we've said all along there's no way we would ever field an unregistered player."

    Glory stripped of points

Perth Glory has been docked three points and fined $5,000 for using an unregistered player against Parramatta Power in Round 1 of the National Soccer League.

The decision to strip Perth of the points and award the game to Parramatta as a 3-0 win was made at an NSL disciplinary tribunal in Sydney on Tuesday night.

The West Australian club claims that German import Andre Gumprecht was registered for the opening game of the season, which the Glory won 2-0.

However, a NSL statement confirmed otherwise.

"On the evidence before it, the tribunal found Perth Glory in breach of regulation 16.13 in playing an unregistered player - Andre Gumprecht."

Despite the setback Perth remains on top of the league ladder on goal difference from Olympic Sharks while Parramatta moves up to fourth place.

The Glory have five business days in which to appeal the decision in writing although this appears unlikely.

"In sport you do not always agree with the referee's decision but you have to get on with the game," said Perth Chief Executive Officer Jeff Dennis in a press statement.

"It is a desperately disappointing way to lose three points that the players worked so hard to win. It will be sad if this matter influences the final standings.

"I would reiterate that Perth Glory has never had a transgression and given the depth of our squad had no reason to transgress in round one.

"The club maintains that the issuing of a registration number by the governing body would appear to mean a player is registered but soccer has had enough internal bickering over the years and in the interests of the game as a whole we will accept the tribunal decision."

Andre Gumprecht was not registered at the start of the NSL season and Perth Glory thought that they already did but they didn't! Those three points cost the Glory top in the end but we are in the grand final!!!
