I kicked a ball 2 years ago barefoot and sprained the tendons around the ball of my ankle on the inside. more towards the top half and towards my toes from there. It healed, and then now 2 years later I kicked the ball in a game from a weird position, and it resprained while I was also wearing a brace which wasn't tight enough.

How can I heal this properly once and for all?

A proper healed ankle doesn't require a brace after the ankle has healed 100%
You should get it checked out properly.

Sprains can happen, but with proper Physical Therapy & Rehab and ankle specific excerises
you can reduce your chance and severity of future ankle sprains.

Unlucky mate, my knee has constantly given me trouble over the past few years while playing. I hope you get better soon man. I agree with the above post, get it checked out properly by some sort of specialist (price can be a major turn off tho)

Have a similar problem but 6 months after it is finally starting to feel strong. I am still using a brace though and I have tried playing some practise sessions without it and I have zero confidence to take the ball on incase I get hit in that exact spot again, but I know I cant wear this much longer.

Going to a physio may not do you much good. Possibly, getting them to do a deep rub to loosen up the tangeled liagments may help. I went through a lot of physio but she told me the majority of the work, she could'nt help me with as I had to work on it myself. First starting point, go and buy a wobble board, you will need to seriously use it everyday to strengthen that tissue again. She also gave me some sort of elastic band which again is good for stretching.

You need to do alot of work to get back to normal

Alright, here is what you need to do.

    1. Ice and elevate the effected area for 15-25 minutes in intervals if your still swollen
    2. If the swelling doesnt go down after 48-72 hours you need to go to the docter
    3. If you think you have done something muscular, you need to go to a specialist ASAP
    4. You need to go to a proper physio to do rehab for 4-8 weeks to build the strength back up in your ankle, if you cant afford it there are plenty of plan on the web of similar exercises.

You shouldn't have to wear a ankle brace ever after injuring a part of your body. By wearing a brace your setting yourself up to re-injury the effected area. By wearing a brace your ankle has gotten weaker because its using the brace to support itself and not building up strength in your ankle muscles.

You need to take off about 2 month to let your ankle heal and build the proper amount of strength again.

I think it's crazy how players like Totti last this long after injury after injury. I haven't played competitively in a couple years now, and I still have old aches and pains occasionally. I feel like I'd be in a wheel chair if I would have played as long as some of these players.
