Scottish PL is definitively one step below MLS in terms of quality, however it's also a historical and fascinating league, full of tradition. It'll be a good experience, and I guess a good paycheck too. Plus, Edinburgh is a great city and drunk girls throw themselves in your arms on weekends

That was my first impression to. I feel a little better for him since I found out their average salary in 2012 was well over $500K. I'm guessing he's getting quite a bump over what he got offered here. Just goes to show how absurd the MLS salary cap is. I can't blame DC for not making him a DP given circumstances. Even though Hearts were relegated in 2014 in a not very good league they are now in a Europa league spot if they can maintain. Then he gets seen by a lot more people. That's a great opportunity for him and I hope he succeeds wildly.
I bet it's the draw of being able to play in the Europa league that persuaded him...that and a big fat salary increase.
Good for him. He's not, IMHO, all that great of a player, but he's proven himself as a reliable professional. He set out to play overseas and he's done it. I'm not gonna dismiss that.
Nice outcome. Perry does well for himself (although Scotland had to be a fallback destination) and, based on Sarvas' play to date he doesn't leave a huge hole in the lineup.
Actually, we agree. As I said, Scotland had to be a fallback destination. The countries you mention would indeed have been a step up. Perry "does well for himself" only in the context of salary if indeed the average compensation is north of $500k.
Truth is, rightly or wrongly, if he puts in a season there it's going to hold a lot more weight with other scouts and managers across Europe than putting in a good season in MLS. If only because one of the major hurdles is already overcome-- adjustment.
Not a prestige league of course but most likely a substantial increase over what he was offered here and a good chance to play in Europe league. How is that not a step up.
I seriously doubt that will happen to Kitchen. His girlfriend/significant other was very close to him when I saw him at Costco a few months ago.
UK work permit has been approved for the next step in his career... Read more: http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.c...ed-lucrative-mls-deal-1-4041911#ixzz41rmV9fi5
I thought his full international status made it easier for him to get the work permit, although it's admittedly something I haven't studied much.
Anyone have any thoughts on moving the entire thread to Alumni, or shall we just let it slide down the page naturally? I thought it should stay here until it was official he had moved on, which has now happened.
while he does have MNT status, he has not played in the necessary percentage of games in order to qualify under that clause
my vote...give it another 24 hours and then shuffle it over...or you can lock it...whichever is easier
So nobody freaks out, I moved it but left a redirect for 2 days. I didn't realize at first that there were posts from last year in the thread, when he was still with the team, but I think we'll live with that. Over time I'm pretty confident the bulk of the posts are going to be talking about his time in Europe.
