For now it seems it's no. But his plans for Chivas change so often I'm sure SD is only off the table this week. About the only thing he holds pat on regarding them is maintaining the stupid name.
If it's anything like last year's match it'll be entertaining, but don't expect too much. It's not the real Chivas USA and it shows.
Wow, even worse. Last time Boca played a team from south of the border they were bent over and embarrassed quite thoroughly.
eh, it will be an under 20 vs some returning players plus newbies, I don't expect it to be end to end stuff
Well they may not want to move here, but Chivas USA does seem to be interested in playing in San Diego. Looks like the San Diego Clasico folks are working on a late Feb preseason game between Chivas USA and as yet un-named opponent. However they were soliciting for ideas for teams to invite just after Xmas. I'd imagine by now they've figured out who Chivas USA will be playing. Just wonder where they'll be doing it. If it'll be at Torero Stadium again or if Chivas USA will once again be playing at PETCO (I'd wager the former before the latter).
Yeah I can't imagine they'd send anything but the first team. They sent the first team to play the LA Galaxy at almost the exact same time last year. Unless they're trying to slight the overall Chivas organization in some way I'd be shocked if it wasn't the first team.
I'll go to that. We had fun at last year's game vs. the Galaxy, though we were a bit torn about which team to root for (neither one being a home team, really). We won't have that problem this time, given that Vergara's snub of our fair city in favor of LA is a major reason we don't have an MLS team in San Diego. BTW, the game is on the Chivas USA website, with the location listed at TBD. Wed, February 22 vs. Club Tijuana Xolos TBD San Diego, CA
True but at the same time he also did come out and state he'll never move here (impliedly even if we had a stadium).
I could list all of the MLS teams who have played, at one time or another, in an unsuitable stadium, but why bother. The MLS pooh-bahs wanted this team here and Vergara said no. As a rational human being, I would say that he has a right to do whatever he wants with his team. As a sports fan, I say screw him. Go Xolos.
Especially because it isn't relevant here in MLS 2.0. You talked about why you don't have an MLS team now. What Real Salt Lake used to play in doesn't matter. You guys can't even get a stadium built for your NFL team. You don't have a suitable indoor arena. Don't blame Vergara for the fact you don't have an MLS team now. He could have put his team in Qualcomm in 2005 and they'd still be there. (And it's Cue behind it all, really. Vergara just brought the brand.) Fair enough. I wish you had an MLS team, too. But Xolos seems like a good time.
There is no MLS 2.0. Major League Soccer is what it has always been, a slow growing, second rate league, with a long term outlook for steady growth. That's good for the game in the US, but not particularly helpful for soccer fans in San Diego - a market the league chose to bypass on its founding in favor of places like Tampa, Dallas, and Kansas City, and one which Chivas USA specifically refused. If we ever get an MLS team, I'll buy season tickets. But until then, the Galaxy isn't our team, just the closest one. Chivas USA isn't our team at all, seeing as how they rejected San Diego and its soccer fans. It may be a dead issue anyway. If Tijuana manages to avoid relegation, then MLS will have lost its chance to win over the Spanish speaking fans of San Diego county (and maybe the rest of Southern California). Without them, it's probably not economically viable to bring an MLS team here. Me, I'll still cheer, a bit, for the Galaxy from afar, and watch English League games on television, as I have done since the 80s.
So you have a out of form MLS team vs mid season form Xolos, sounds like the Xolos will send out their reserves.
