well, TT sure is right about the space between back line and front 2. It's like there is nobody there. Dorsch can play but I don't know who the other two are and I don't even know what they look like. In any case, they obviously were not prepared for the aspirins who did exactly what they wanted to do in their usual style. p.s. edit: they could have taken Sands pretty cheap. He's on loan to Rangers. Let Sands hold and Dorsch bulldog the 8.
Pepi did well to win the ball on the left, played off a teammate in the box and got a shot off. Too weak and the keeper made an easy save.
Twellman, talking about Pepi’s arrival at Augsburg, just said Sarge needed some time before he started scoring goals consistently for Bremen. LOL As much as I love Sarge, a consistent goal scorer for Bremen he was not.
Pepi off at 57th minute. Augsburg score in 63rd minute off a free kick which keeper parried and then Augsburg knocked in. Down 2:1 now.
I hate to say it and jinx anybody, but this is another case of a young yank on a bad team. He definitely looks to be an able goal scorer. He will get chances. Unfortunately his team will concede many more goals than he or anybody on his team will score. Let's hope he continues to push and keeps a level of confidence thru the adversity. I'm hopeful.
I don't remember other teenage Americans moving to the Bundesliga for that kind of money. It's the 5th-highest American transfer of all-time, the record American sale out of MLS, and it smashed Augsburg's transfer record by $6.5 million. It's a newsworthy story - there's no conspiracy needed here.
Agree with you guys and my feelings don’t contradict what you’ve said. I just find the whole Pepi to Augsburg situation odd. Hope he doesn’t collapse under the hype and expectations. Plus, the US owner sort of pushing young, relatively unproven talent from his home country onto the team could be either a stroke of genius or huge mis-fire. It’s Pepi’s game now, though. He is where he is and I’m rooting heavily for him and watching his games.
It seems an odd move for a relegation threatened club to sign a big money player who isn’t a nailed on scoring threat from day one. Pepi has little track record to make that kind of decision, so I wonder if that American owner is down playing his role in the signing. I don’t see a pragmatic German club taking that kind of risk at this point in the season.
Gladach up 3-1 now. Was a chance to try to spring Pepi on the break earlier but the pass wasn't played. Would be good to see a Scally cameo at some point.
And Gladbach quickly go up 3-1. No Pepi involvement - great Neuhaus chip in to Bensebaini to head home.
Augsburg look awful just cheap turnovers all over the place. Wouldn't matter if they had Lewa up top.
Damn. 90th minute excellent header forward by Pepi to set up Finnbogason for an equalizer, but the shot is just wide.
Pepi with a somewhat surprising start against Dortmund. Reyna still hurt, Maloney played for BVB2 earlier.
