http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/021115/4/desay.html Personally, I don't know what to think of Pennant. He hasn't been given a real chance in the senior side, but when I've seen him play I haven't been overwhelmed. He seems awfully small, which in itself isn't necessarily that bad, but he seems very slight, too. It's tough to be a midfielder at Arsenal right now, because there's such depth at the position. I know people are inclined to give Pennant a chance, but at whose expense?
Pennent is one of the best young talent Arsenal have at the moment, and I think it would be a shame if he leaves the team because he isn't getting enough playing time. I think he's still only 19, and if he's given enough chances he should develop into something special. I'm not sure at whose cost though!
I would hate to see Pennant go for two reasons. One, he looks a very good talent. I know it's tough to break into the Arsenal midfield at the moment, but Wenger seems to rate him and you never know what will happen with the squad over the next couple of years, so I think he should bide his time as he's only young. He's had a couple of appearances in the first team this season and hasn't looked out of place. Secondly, if one of our best young talents leaves because he can't break into the team, what message does that send out to the other youth players at Arsenal? Young players will think twice about joining Arsenal if they don't see anyone making it through to the senior side. Only Ashley Cole has made it in recent times (I'm talking about regulars, Taylor doesn't count) , since Ray Parlour really, not a good strike rate. I don't think he should be put into the team because of that reason, strictly on merit, but it does affect other aspects of the club if our most celebrated prospect were to leave.
