http://www.pennstatesoccer.com/mar25.htm Penn State announced the signing of two more players for next season: Curtis Neiderer - goalkeeper transfer from Butler University. He still has four years of eligibility remaining as he red-shirted his first year due to injury. Called best goalkeeper in West Virginia in high school. Should compete for playing time in 2004. Grady Renfrow - midfielder/defender from Gonzaga High in Washington, DC.
Matt Novchich & Nick Ginare already announced as keeper signees. Any thoughts on why Penn State is bringing in 3 goalkeepers? I'm familiar with Novchich; probably in the top 4 in N.C. this year. An aggressive, athletic keeper but only about 6'0. You can't coach 6'5"!
From the link Hax posted. Barry Gorman on Curtis Neiderer: “Curtis Neiderer is a physically imposing goalkeeper that we expect to challenge for our starting position. He has recovered from an injury that kept him out of action last year.” With all due respect to Barry, I think what kept him out of action was the stellar play of fellow freshman Chris Dunseath, arguably the top freshman GK in the country last year. I would also bet that the prospect of sitting behind Dunseath for three more years factored in Neiderer's decision to transfer. Renfrow THis kid is actually supposed to be pretty good. I hear he had a couple pretty good schools looking to bring him in. His high school coach rates him up there with the Carroll boys that went to Wake and St. John's. He may be a sleeper?
