Former YA has hung around Germany and gotten his coaching license: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...referral&utm_content=News&utm_campaign=Unpaid Matarazzo has since worn a variety of staff hats at FCN, everything from a fitness coach to helping write the soccer curriculum for all age levels at the club. He began as an U-23 assistant and had a three-month stint as that team's interim manager before eventually leading their U-17 squad to a third place finish in his first head coaching job. Pell appears to have just been named assistant coach at Hoffenheim, if I'm reading this correctly: Alex Schmidt galt als Favorit, doch jetzt hat die TSG Hoffenheim Pellegrino Matarazzo als neuen Co-Trainer von Julian Nagelsmann bekanntgegeben.
This is correct.....Hmm! That might turn into something interesting for US Players looking at German clubs
@TheFalseNine -- Let's update the title. He's an assistant at Hoffenheim now. https://gocolumbialions.com/news/2018/1/17/211692950.aspx
He's been named the new manager of Stuttgart. Has to the be the most high profile American coaching job in Europe after Bob Bradley. https://www.vfb.de/de/vfb/aktuell/neues/profis/2019/neuer-cheftrainer/
Should be an interesting move. Looking on Twitter, there was almost no speculation about him becoming the new coach and the German fans are more fascinated by his name ("like a poem") than anything. Once they find out he's American more than Italian, I'll be curious the reaction.
I mean hasn't this guy been in Germany for like 20 years now between playing and coaching. 10 years as a player and 10 years involved in coaching.

“It was a solid team effort today” - American manager Pellegrino Matarazzo said after winning his head coaching debut with Stuttgart in a 3-0 result over Heidenheim in from of 52,000 fans at Mercedes Benz Arena. Wow i had no idea about this guy... That is seriously story of the season, although i doubt few will understand how improbable such a feat is (i assume he is "real" american and not passport american) Just incredible.... If he gets stuttgart promoted he needs to name male athlete of the year.... Forget pulisic or whoever....
He could have... but I've interviewed him before. I believe he went to Fair Lawn high school (I know his brother did). His brother worked for City Football Group in New York but I believe is in the front offices of MLS these days.
I am still in active shock about this story. Think jay demerit meets mini willi mays (that was the first black baseball player, correct?) meets having to play all away games in the soviet red square. To be fair, his name is the most god damn italian looking name i have ever seen. Hell he didnt even play for Indiana or anything. 5th division 4th and 1 year in third div Then somehow overcoming the 2000s prejudice against an american soccer player as a youth coach? THEN overcoming the Bush war years as an american? Sooo many other facets as well. This guy must be a legit genius to get to stuttgart in ten years...
3-0 win over Aue Matarazzo has picked up 7 out of a possible 9 points from his first 3 games in charge of Stuttgart
What's he like as a manager, meaning, does he fit a mold like a Klopp or a Guardiola? Is he pressing all game, playing out of the back, etc? Guy clearly has a strong Italian heritage, so why did he not pursue football in Italy as opposed to going to the third division in Germany? I can't imagine the transition from NJ to the Rhineland was easy. I would imagine given his name that he was pretty comfortable with the Italian way of life?
He's in the Nagelsmann coaching tree. Posted above by @BostonRed https://amp.bundesliga.com/en/bunde...t-s-new-american-coach-julian-nagelsmann-9028
