1st win: Fair Lawn, NJ native Pellegrino Matarazzo wins his first game as a Bundesliga manager (and becomes the first American to do so) as his VfB Stuttgart team cruises past Mainz 4-0— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) September 26, 2020
Umm he’s doing rather well so far. Stuttgart with 7 points from their first 4 games & a healthy +4 goal differential Stuttgart fans like him, for now
I guess two years as assistant under Julian Nagelsmann at Hoffenheim, must have done him some good. I think a lot of fans (including myself) had some doubts at the beginning, but I think there's very few, if any, who doubt him now. It would appear that all the players have bought in.
MATCH REPORT 📝Pellegrino #Matarazzo sent out the youngest starting line-up of any Bundesliga team this season away to @BlackYellow, and his charges were superb from the off in a 5-1 win. 👏#BVBVfB #VfBhttps://t.co/oWwt61a7Qk— VfB Stuttgart_int (@VfB_int) December 12, 2020 for all the deserved love bvb gets for playing kids this is damn impressive
Stuttgart’s 24 goals are the 2nd most goals scored in the Bundesliga so far this season behind only Bayern. That is very rare for a newly promoted club . Bravo, Pellegrino!!
Wow. I've been on this forum for how many years now, and I only find out about Matarazzo today? Especially weird considering how much time I've spent on the YA boards. What a story. Just completely flew under my radar...
He has 1.5 years left on his contract. If he gets Stuttgart to el/cl from the 2nd division.... It will def open some doors for new gigs. https://www.transfermarkt.com/pellegrino-matarazzo/profil/trainer/10906
Somebody made a Matarazzo graphic and posted it on Reddit - and it's getting a significant amount of attention: (The comments are interesting. Several Italian posters noted that they could tell that he was likely an emigrant, because the name "Pelligrino" is an archaic Italian name.) https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/kezccf/who_is_pellegrino_matarazzo_the_american_coach/
Cool article here praising what his coaching has done for Stuttgart. (Run it through Google translate for the non-German speakers) Pellegrino Matarazzo ist seit genau einem Jahr Trainer des VfB Stuttgart - und ein "Glücksfall" für den Aufsteiger. Was der Cheftrainer-Novize bislang bewirkt hat. https://www.kicker.de/793487/artikel/fuenf-bereiche-in-denen-matarazzo-den-vfb-vorangebracht-hat
He's got a year and a half left on his contract. I don't think VfB would give permission for them to talk to him.
Half time vs Leipzig and Matarazzo's team are looking really good, very impressed with them. They have size, skill and speed all over the place. Tuko looks really, really good, as do Endo and love to see Castro landed in a good spot too. Really impressed with their organization too, not every day do you see CBs making so many runs forward and sprinting back. They also attack and defend is squares, which is interesting in a world of triangles; it allows for options going forward and the ability to collapse space defending. Hope they can make Europe and/or keep Tuko for next season
Full time, they ran out of steam and quality in the end. Probably a deserved result for Leipzig but they weren't overwhelmingly better. Stuttgart remind me of Union Berlin in how they play and set up; both are sturdy teams that can give anyone a hard time and results have proven that.
was surprised the announcer criticism stuttgart received at the end for losing to a club like leipzig in a pretty tight match
If you are ever interested in German forums talking about any Usmnt, I generally read Transfermarkt: https://www.transfermarkt.de/pelleg...m/11/thread_id/406517/page/142#anchor_1647865 For example, there are 142 pages on him, while there are 4 pages here on bs.
