    I am very grateful for what he did for US soccer, it can never be underestimated.

    The "game is a reality in the U.S" thanks to the groundwork that led to MLS.

    My first soccer game - at the Meadowlands vs. Rowdies (or Strikers, can't quite recall). Probably '76 or '77. Huge crowd - 50K plus. Electric atmosphere. I'm on a long line at halftime for a hotdog. Match starts. Pele scores not one, but two goals while I'm line watching the back of some dude's neck. It sucked, but I was hooked...
