Where did you get this from? Also, are you sure there's a team in Brazil named SanPaulo?

This info is well known fact in Korea. As far as spelling of teams are concerned, I directly translated from Korean article so I'm not sure on that. This new tournament is 100% finalised and will take place in 2003.

Great news, but i'm not sure exactly how they figured "the best club from each continent" with Lyon, PSV, Bayer and Roma.... but it will be great to see how well our boys the G's do against some good quality euro sides with a fair amount of cash as motivation.

Yes, if Sao Paulo is playing at all.

Hmm...Bayer Leverkusen...is by far not as good as last season...Bayern München or Borussia Dortmund would be more attractive in my eyes.

If this was true, it would have been on the websites of most, if not all of these teams, written on other newspaper's sites etc...

When pray tell would this tournament be played? The summer? So is MLS going to delay part of the LA Galaxy schedule so they can fly into Korea to play im a meaningless We Love Guus Hiddink Cup? The Euro teams are going to play this Cup as preseason scrimmages? Doesn't Brazil have a Summer season as well?

With the Confederations Cup and Gold Cup and the Concacaf Champions Cup thing, this summer, plus the MLS season, I can't see any MLS team, let alone the Galaxy

If you read this, you read it, I'm not calling you a liar, but this is as far fetched as anything I've heard in a while

Why do you single out the Galaxy?

    Are ANY of these teams...

    Songnam Ilhwa
    AS Roma
    PSV Eindhoven
    Sao Paulo
    Lyon
    LA Galaxy
    Bayer Leverkusen
    Kaiser Chiefs

ANYWHERE near the best of their respective continents? Lyon as best of Europe is approximately 523,963,450 times more laughable than the Galaxy best of Concacaf...LA is at least in the top 10 of Concacaf while Lyon....AND even IF this "cup" took place, what makes you think that LA themselves would not take it "lightly", troll?

I swear, one of these days I will pay up the $30 for the membership...those ignore lists sound better everyday...

Sau Paulo Is the only team that I wold even give any weight too... Roma and Byer Leverskuen are decent but not exactly the best from the continen...

I pointed out the Galaxy because it is the only team that I have seen in person and could honestly give a truthfull evaluation... Sau Paulo I have seen on Tv and they are not all bad... I think it would be unfair of me to evaluate the others seeing as most of these others teams I have not even goten a chance to see play....

As to why I think that Galaxy might try harder to win the turnament than others, I think it has to do with world recognition... MLS and the Galaxy along with the African and Asian teams clearly have a lot more to gain from winning this cup than any of the European or South American teams.

    Pleasure discussing soccer with you,

Should be a massively interesting matchup though, don't you think? :)

  18. He was just upset because someone wrote that LA Galaxy is the best team that the subcontinent can offer. About Leverkusen, probably they aren't on their best form (so are Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Man. United.....), but their were sub champions of UEFA not too long away. You got the point with Lyon. Roma is decent european side, they are still playing the Champions League, not the best but a top 15. And Sao Paulo is a good Brazilian team behind Santos but Brazil is one of the most balanced Leagues in the world, they are leaving out Argentina and the other sudamerican countries. I don't know much about PSV. I don't know anything about the other teams.

Depends on the level of competition each team brings... Personally I wouldnt want to see Sau Paulo bringing their "B" team which is possible because I belive Libertadores might also be going on at the same time. This turnament is trying to do grate things, trying to get the best clubs from every continent... however I think it will be hard for clubs to take any new turnament seriously... however it must be done as we truly do need a World Champ in terms of clubs.

Remember. The Galaxy was going to FIFA's World Club Championship that was cancelled.
I'm really tired of hearing this everyone takes these tournements lightly when a Mexican team is not involved or loses any games. It gets old. Time for those teams to become professional and try to do their best, I guess.(sarasm)
That's always the excuse when an American team wins the CONCACAF Cup.
Anyway.. There's supposed to be a "break" in the MLS season for international play this next season. Not sure when. The schedule is supposed to be lighter.
This could be part of the reason for the delay in the schedule.

    Don't worry, I can read Korean. ;-)

But the article you have referenced states a little different story.

It doesn't say the tournament participants are finalized. The direct translation would be "realistically finalized", which in Korean means not 100%, but more like 98%. The finalized teams are PSV Eindhoven, Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, and Boca Juniors. Galaxy is almost finalized. Palmeiras is "positive" in participation. I don't see Sao Paulo in there.

Also, the article says nothing about "best of the best club." It just states the tournament will invite 4 teams from Europe, 2 teams from S.A., 1 team from CONCACAF, and Sungnam FC (Korea).

The article also mentions the final 8 entrants will be FINALIZED on the 25th but doesn't mention which month they will annouce.

I am still very sceptical about this. I'm sure the tournament will be held but the participants are NOT finalized.

There is nothing I would want more than that all teams took every game seriously... Howver it is very unrealistic to expect that... With league comitments, continental turnaments and other comitments... You can always learn something from any game played however you have to take everything with a grain of salt and examine the situation of every game...

    PSV Eindhoven: Hiddink! Hiddink!
    Sanpaulo: dont know
    Lyon: dont know
LA Galaxy: only got invited because they bought Hong, duh!
Bayer Leverkusen: not doing good in bundesliga or cl
Kaiser Chiefs: one of the best in africa

  24. 2003 World Cup championship was also canceled, too bad for Pachuca who ended in the last place at MFL in the end of last 2002 season. Anyway, the past Champion Cup was the first with a decent format. Instead of playing all games in the same city, we now have home and away games like the restof the world. PD. Galaxy didn't won any MLS vs MFL game when they were the champions, Toluca and Pachuca were eliminated by teams form centroamerica.
