Maybe the term "flamewar" is a bit strong. But the "mac sucks! No, windows sucks!" crap seems to be popping up in a lot of threads recently. I was tired of that BS 10 years ago, and I've got no desire to read more of it. Especially now that Microsoft has finally managed to put together a reasonably reliable OS.
I haven't seen any real flames here recently. Foos, I know you are a geek/programmer like me, and I can tell you, compared to some of the flame wars that go on in geekdom websites, what you see here is nothing. There are flame wars for: C vs C++ Java vs C++ J2EE vs .Net Python vs Perl ASP vs JSP vs PHP Gnome vs KDE Macs vs PCs X Linux Distro vs Y Linux Distro Windows vs Macs, Linux, BSD, Sun, and just about anyone else. Do a Google on any of these, you'll see what I mean. Actually, if you follow any of those threads, they can be quite funny, if rather stupid and juvenille. As for criticism/flames on Windows/Microsoft - most of the time, it is deserved. They still have huge security problems (and being the "big target" is not a full excuse - they have bad architecture), huge probems with updates, draconian licensing, bad customer support, forced upgrades (which everybody hates), anti-trust/monopoly legal issues, predatory, mafia style business practices (like building up an arsenal of bogus patents, like the double mouse click and the "is not" operator in programming, and threatening sueing every competitor and/or open source programmer), and they still do not deliver real innovation (they are pretty good at refining other people's ideas, though). Now, if MS simply concentrated on making the best products possible, and deliver features based on what the market actually wants, and stop all of their predatory practices, and market themselves in a positive way (rather than relying on FUD against their competitors), and concentrate on making their customers happy, nobody would have a problem with them, and all the anti MS flames would trickle away. This would also be a great formula for their long term success. They won't be able to rely on their monopoly forever. Sooner or later, it will crumble.
why sticky thread? windows will win anyway so it seems to me this is a very cruel attempt by the mods to torture mac/linux fan boys until the end.
Come on Foos, this the greatest argument ever. The arugements, which I have participated in, are acutally well behaved. Could be a lot worse.
That's actually kinda funny. But if by winning you mean Windows will inevitably gradually lose market share to mac and Linux, you are ever so correct!
Why not have a running thread and just add new discussion - sort of like the Adu age threads. Hama is one of my favorite posters in this forum.

M$ is for stupid people who are effing clueless! Macs are for snobby artsy fartsy types who have somewhat of a clue and like to throw their money at Steve Jobs! Linux is the future!
