Wow, no interest at all here in this match?

The loser probably gets Spain, so I'd say the stakes are pretty high.

This is the first game where Russia faces a real challenge. I expected two wins over Saudi Arabia and Egypt albeit not in that convincing fashion. So far Uruguay gave me the impression they only want results without spending a lot of effort. If they eager for topping the group this has to change today. Centre-back Gimenez is injured and won't play. Coates is expected to start next to Godin. If Russia plays to his best I can see them pulling off a draw here.

I think this will be either a draw or a 1-0 win for Uruguay. Despite their attacking play not being that impressive, they look like a team to me that can grind out results.

The way I see this match playing out is Russia thinking that they are Barca and trying to keep possession and attack and putting a lot of pressure on Uruguay as the fans cheer them to push.

Uruguay feels at home in that situation.
I say they absorb the pressure, get some sort of cheap set piece goal or penalty and win 1-0.

At the end of the match everyone will be like did the better team really win?

I would hope Tabarez will rest some players.

No need to expose his team to fatigue before facing either Portugal or Spain. For all we know, Portugal will end up as B1.

edit: good for Tabarez, mixing it up with subs.

No subs there. Coates is in because Gimenez is hurt. The rest are changes looking for the best team, not to rest anybody.

Subs during Conmebol qualifiers: Coates, Torreira, Nandez, Laxalt.

I agree, Coates is a forced sub.

Edit: Russia doing the same, giving rest to some good players as well.

I'd sure as hell rest Golovin as well.

I've seen 20 games or so, and I STILL hate the lettering adidas is using.

One hell of a shove by the Russians there at the end of the wall.

Good goal off a free kick by Suarez. And I love the quintessential South American display of clubs' flags and banners by the Uruguayans. A bit of Libertadores flavor in this World Cup (in the stands at least).

Uruguay desperately needs a central midfielder.

    Well, a good one anyway.
