PBP Thread: Match #20, Iran vs Spain, 20 June 2018 [R]

I'd been half-watching this game in the background and was pretty shocked, thinking to myself: "Why is Spain playing an 11-men-behind-the-ball bunker against... Iran?" and "these Iranians are pretty good at maintaining offensive pressure, but they're totally incompetent at the last pass and shooting."

Then, suddenly... "Why is Iniesta wearing an Iran jersey?"

Oh.

 

Just let Sergio Ramos be the one with the own goal...

 

Summary of Iran's game plan:

 

Iran players acting like they get stabbed anytime a Spain player is near them. What a joke.

 

They did that against Korea in Seoul too. That one ended 0-0.

 

Good. We don't need them.

 

At least this is a very nice bus...lol

 

48 team cup featuring games like: Burkina Faso vs. Thailand.

No offense to those teams.

 

That's when you can not watch all of the games...Most are junk, especially in the first 3 games...

 

What can Iran do? Their whole strategy is defend with 11 and delay the game and its working. It might not be pretty but so far its working.

 

Italy with its defensive mind was out of the WC and it's a positive...

 

They are that bad...They don't want the ball...lol

 

The slippery slope started in 1982, when they expanded from 16 to 24 teams. 16 was good enough. Now it's going to eventually have 64 teams. Sigh.

 

Not like Canada-Northern Ireland would be better...

 

Away games against strong teams (ROK, this cycle) yes.

 

Sometimes more is not better...FIFA does not care, as long as they can take the money...

 

Iceland, Switzerland and Iran keep the flame of defensive soccer alive, now that Italy and Paraguay suck.

 

2nd half is the same. The difference is your eyes goes to the other side...with some twists...
