PBP Thread: Match #15, Poland vs Senegal, 19 June 2018 [R]

Assistant referee seems not ready for this competition. He called some wrong off sides.

 

I assume he was there as part of the 2026 bid announcement.

 

I'm not disappointed with Poland cause I never considered them good.

I am, on the other hand, impressed with Senegal. I knew they were good and fast, but in this game they've been better and faster than I knew

 

No offense to Polish fans, but Poland (apart from Euro 2016) often seem so mentally weak at big tournaments, even coming in with good squads and after good qualifying campaigns. WC 2002/2006, Euro 2012 on home soil, screwed the pooch on all three occasions in very favorable groups...

It's the same thing with Russia and Ukraine, in many cases. The former have more or less failed on every occasion since the breakup of the Soviet Union (bar Euro 2008), and Ukraine got embarrasingly schooled by Northern Ireland at the last Euros.

Granted, these nations aren't footballing superpowers, but they often mess up vs. beatable opposition on big occasions.

 

You put way too much weight on individual achievements in tournaments. Just because they qualified does not make them better than for example Italy. Just as my Sweden was not the third best team in the world in the mid nineties.

Wonder if that makes up for Grzegorz's bug-up.

they could. But I don't see it happening. And I'm not sure they deserve anyway

 

Huge goal, even if it doesn't change the winner. Poland is now even on goal difference with Colombia, and Senegal is even with Japan. The group just tightened with that goal.
