Also miscommunication between Piszczek and Szczesny ... I think Piszczek could have gotten there if he attacked the ball aggressively. Instead he decided to wait for the keeper who was never going to get there.
I still think that the keeper should have stayed in the goal. He already had a defender closing in on niang
Piszczek with Dortmund has shown his share of defensive mistakes. And this is not just pace, Senegal is very well coached.
In no way am I putting the efforts of Senegal down but there 2 goals have come from Polish mistakes. But there pace is electrifying. Awesome to watch.
Kicking myself for hedging my Senegal Bets. I liked Senegal to advance and to win today but I got too damn nervous and hedged. Really excited for Senegal, they were my favorites to advance for Africa along with Egypt until Salah got hurt (but if he can play today, that can change everything if he's match fit), but I didn't expect this? Did anyone? What a shocking day! Just littered with chaos.
Oh please, don't compare Poland to Germany. Germany is better than Mexico at everything, including pace. But everything can happen in football when its one game. Poland is not even top ten in Europe.
I have no problem with the ref waving that player on. At that point the ball was still in midfield. The ref didn't force Krychowiak to kick the ball back into his own danger zone.
Honestly, I didn't think Senegal would play so well. I expected them to score and to pose a threat, but not mentally dominate the Polish... at least until now. It's all on the coach for managing to keep his team so focused and composed
Called Senegal to make some noise. Actually have them and Columbia going through. Did I just see Sunil Gulati in the background and the Senegal celebration?
You do know that not everybody is watching and can take you initial comment as inappropriate (to be kind).
Poland are ranked 8th in world FYI, and the Germans did lose to Mexico I believe. There counterattacking pace is what caused the Germans trouble. I'm not saying Germany isn't an awesome team, just that they lacked pace in the back-end the other night. & the same thing is happening in this match.
They did make the quarterfinals at Euro 2016 which put them in the top 8 for that year. And they at least qualified to this WC which puts them at least in the top 13. Poland has a great generation, but I feel like they've reached their peak. There is nowhere else to go from here. Players like Krychowiak and Milik have stopped developing. And others like Piszczek and Blaszczykowski are reaching the end.
