that was long ago. i was talking about more recent world cups. but i will take your word for it about the confed cup claim. although off the top of my head i dont think the confed cup is that old of a tournament.
its a joke.. italy always defeats germany in semifinals. so the one time italy was not in it germany goes out so no other team can knock them out in knockouts.
From my mind: Spain-2010 Bulgaria-1994 Yugoslavia-1962 But, I know, is there some team that Germany are afraid to face at WC, that team is Italy, for sure
Big teams quit for very meaningful and pivotal game 3's unless you meant as sarcasm. It's incredible how many of these giants just laid a giant turd. Nothing could top this though. Not only the context of Germany, being world champions, 7-1 thrashers of Brazil at home, seemingly invulnerable and then being eliminated and bottom of their group. The ELO points exchanged between two sides was a whopping 80. I think that's the biggest exchange of the entire year of any match. Germany dropped to 7th and Korea shot up to 25th. Someone made the joke that Korea needed to beat Germany 2-0 to have a shot to advance and that those odds were like 100-1... Maybe less long odds than 7-1 Brazil but someone probably became rich today. Oddly it was Mexico that really laid the turd in the final match of this group but escaped by the skin of their teeth.
No, I'm talking about teams like France in 2002 or 2010 or England in 2014 where they throw out the compelete surrender different lineup and go through the motions and go home.
this match will prove why fifa ranking has huge flaws. south korea was gifted the win and they will leap in the rankings because on paper they beat a much higher ranked teams. but in reality any decent team would have scored 3-4 goals against germany late on. fifa rankings needs to take into account the level of desperation of the opponent, although that is hard to quantify. if this was the first match of the group stages for example, there is no way germany would not have beaten this south korean side. meanwhile Iran played much better than south korea against spain but on paper it is 1-0 loss and will negatively affect our rank.
Why do you worry about such things? If Iran and South Korea are indeed two giants of Asia, they will eventually meet each other in tournaments or qualifiers, and whatever happens on the field at that point will mean a lot more than the bogus FIFA rankings.
I'm not sure why Iran matters in an SK-Germany game. Iran also got their moral victory points vs a lethargic Portugal who would have, supposedly by your logic, thrashed them if it was their first game. Thankfully, it's the results on the pitch that matter and everything else is just noise. And this is Elo ratings we are talking about, which also uses a similar formula. How else would you quantify points exchanged? If San Marino beat Brazil it better result in a +1000 point swing differential. Germany had every intention and reason to be desperate and putting in 100% effort. Desperation makes teams play better usually, not worse... if anything SK should have gotten even more points exchanged given what was at stake for both teams. Beating a German team that had already qualified would have mattered way less.
Then don’t worry. South Korea is as unlikely as Iran to be seeded at the next WC, in spite of their win.
First time ever Germany did not make it to the playoffs. Today it might not feel so, but Germany is a nation of winners. It is in their football DNA. They will be back to raise trophies. Also respect to the interviews on German TV - ZDF. They were hugely diaspointed, but made no bad excuses. Same goes for Jogi Löw.
Are Iran fans this desperate that now dismiss a valid WC win by a fellow AFC side? Or is it some convoluted attempt to name Iran on unrelated WC match threads? Cannot tell whether this is worse than blaming corrupt FIFA for Portugal+Spain advancing, because sponsorship deals needed protection. Big ups to South Korea on their win against Germany. Somehow, FIFA forgot to protect Germany+sponsors... I am sure South Korean fans will revisit this match for some years. Good stuff.
By far the biggest drama of this WC. I was eating thorugh my nails watching this and I was neutral as to which team classified. Amazing effort by SK, they are the people's champs right now (especially to mexicans). And let's just stop for a moment now and think about the 9 minutes of additional time that this crappy ref gave Germany? That is almost a full OT half. Blatant shameless bias towards helping out the european side.
Since when has “persianfootball” equaled “Iran fans”? There are hundreds of “Iran fans” on this site, and “persianfootball” is just one guy! And who are YOU to talk about Iran fans anyways? From what I’ve seen from your posting history, you are a Saudi supporter with an agenda and obsession with Iran. So don’t generalize other teams’ fans and try to push your hidden agenda here. In case you didn’t know, Iranians and Koreans have had the most heated arguments on this website over the years, yet the vast majority of our fans still support each other during the World Cup cycles. If anything, Korea beating Germany is good for AFC and therefor Iran.
As in the old saying "Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Koreans beat the Germans" ... or wait, is that the new saying ? ...
Dude... when did I ever support disgraceful AFC teams? People don't care about Iran vs KSA squabbles, you dig? I used the plural noun because we got Iran fans on unrelated threads always trying to hype up their team. Seriously man, give it a rest already. Iran ain't a topic in this thread. South Korea is.
That’s just gold coming from you. Because you’re the one who is clearly obsessed and prejudiced, making generalizing comments, and only one I see here who cares about what a poster’s nationality is. So no, YOU give it a rest! Who here had even mentioned Iran before you started blaming “Iran fans” for one guy talking shit for himself. Address the individuals you have a problem with, don’t drag other fans into it.
Fair enough. I made my complaint, so let us hope the over-hyping subsides. Good to see South Korea perform as it did today. Japan might still provide another UEFA defeat tomorrow.
