This was known for a while, we were supposed to get amado guevara in return, but he didnt like the idea of playing in canada, so he quit mls. Too bad. But maybe this will give canizales more playing time? I like what ive see from him so far.
I think Nagamura was worth more than a draft pick. From what I hear of Guevara, we may have dodged a bullet. We certainly don't need any "I don't want to play in Canada" crybabies on the team that's for sure.
yeah, I've never liked Guevara. He's been in MLS a while and had marginal success. He's never been content anywhere with anyone though. Although I feel like a draft pick isn't much for Nagamura, NOT getting Guevara might be worth it.
First round by the sounds of it. http://toronto.fc.mlsnet.com/news/t...ent_id=91958&vkey=pr_t280&fext=.jsp&team=t280
Sorry, I suppose I should have mentioned that. It's a first round pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. I know it's important to build for the future, but we could really use some help right now. I wish we could have dealt for a player who could jump straight into the line up. A lot to ask I know. Growing pains are a fact of life for any new franchise no matter what sport we are talking about, I just want them to win so badly. Hopefully next Saturday will be the day.
So the Cancer "retires" but you get 2 picks in the Super Draft. It's not bad. This team is very young, you can forget about now if they will get better for years. Furthermore, you still have a DP
Don't be surprised if Mo trades that pick for a player. Anyone know if there's a good central defender out there we could get for a first rounder? As for Nags... I liked him but I'd rather have Edu in the middie instead of Nags and playing on the right wing (like Saturday) won't do because that's Ronnie's spot when he gets back. Ofcourse he could have always replaced Robinson in the middle, but I'm hoping that he will get going and start to produce what a senior international should. Maybe Poznaik is ready to go so that will mean Brennan will step back into the mid and it made Nags a little more expendabile.
Glad we got something for him. With O'Brien and Edu healthy he would not have been starting. He would have to count as a SI next year so no way we would have kept him. Getting a 1st rounder for him now was lucky as the Amado deal fell apart ... would have been looking at a 2nd rounder for him in all likliehood othewise.
I was thinking, what if we call up Andrea Lombardo, play him and Dichio up front, and drop Eskandarian back to an attacking midfielder's role? This way, we won't have a shortage of midfielders and Andrea Lombardo will get a chance to work his magic up at the big club. He has already scored three goals or something for Toronto FC reserves this season.
While he may not have been a top performer, I still think we're struggling most in midfield - it doesn't make any sense to me to make it even weaker after a 0-4 start and get nothing in return that can help us now. I'm starting to think Mo may not be the right man for the job - we need to fill the holes NOW not next year. Let's hope Mo has something up his sleeve -maybe saving a little more on salary to bring in some additional quality.
Screw Nagamura. He's the 3rd player in a month who "didn't want to play in Canada". If this is going to be a problem than Toronto FC should only have Canadians and Europeans. I heard Luis Figo's done with top level football...
I would characterize a league MVP honor as better than marginal success. His attitude can be debated, and I too would not want a player that says I will quit before playing anywhere.
good idea but i'm not sure it'd work. because our mid is a little vulnerable to begin with for that to work Eskandarian would have to backtrack to fetch balls in the mid and that may put him out of his natural position. seeing as we haven't scored a goal yet i'd be willing to try. it could leave our team a little unbalanced though. and that's even lining them up in a diamond mid...something like this: wynne-----boyen/reda/prozniak-----brennan-----goldwaith ------------------------edu----------------------------- o'brien--------------------------------------------welsh ---------------------eskandarian------------------------ ------------lombardo---------------dichio--------------- for better coverage in the mid what mo can do is sit welsh, go with a flat 3 in the middle with brennan on the left and start 2 out of reda, boyens, prozniak as CB.
I thought this was a terrible deal, I dont really rate draft picks that high and if Robbinson/Edu get hurt we are leaving ourselves quite short in depth which is something we shouldnt be doing at this point. I real believe this was a bad piece of business done by Mo
so that just means everybody hes picked up in the expansion draft is gone... good job....why hold the draft in the first place!!!! we have no backup keeper...the team is a revolving door im sure the moral is shit in the dressing....and we have barely any reserves in the mid....so what happens when Ronnie tweaks his knee again??? get with it people MO has no clue what he's doing....thats what the new yorkers have been saying all along!!!! another mess-up by MLSE! i bet colangelo can find some guys to run this tea...you know, with all his ties to italy!
wait so by no back up keeper you literally mean we have no back up keeper. Who goes in if greg gets injured?
love the formation. i couldn't agree more. this is what i was wanting to see sonce they picked up dichio but i think mo has a problem with starting lombardo. i think they should start him and then depeding on how the match goes, probably take him out around 70-80 minute mark and get a fresh esky in there. i think it would really work to their advantage.
we have a bakc up now. they siogned him last week or two weeks ago from the whitecaps... he was their 3rd string. good pick up (on paper) we'll have to see what he's like...
well maybe in a 4-3-1-2 you can start buddle and let andrea get his feet wet by playing 20 minutes to close out the match. buddle has looked lost but with more support it can probably open up some gaps for him to penetrate.
gherardini has all the ties in italy. anyway, i wouldn't be so down on mo trading away almost everyone we selected in the expansion draft. teams rarely leave promising players unprotected. they're usually washed up has-beens or bad contracts or simply put, bad players.
true but nagamura was doing next to nothing for us. to think we got a first rounder for him is pretty good. i'm not too fond over johnston either but this one is a pretty good deal. it gives us the flexibility to trade this pick for a roster player.
