From the looks of it, Freier does not seem to be too happy to be in VfL Bochum and Bayer 04 Leverkusen is really looking at him. It also seems that the VfL coach is not too pleased by his actions and has threatened to bench him for the entire season if Freier stays. What is to happen to one of Germany's great hopes for the future and present?
What exactly has Freier done to earn Neurerer's contempt? Personally, Freier has not impressed me this season (he was great last year), but having lost Hashemian and Fahrenhorst, I would think Bochum would be trying to hang onto him absent a sensational offer from another team.
Neurerer is simply having a tizzy-fit over Bayer showing interest in one of his prized assets. His promise to bench Freier for the season is so ludicrous it's laughable. Why punnish a player for the actions of another club, or for that player to simply want to better his career? If Neurerer actually followed through on his childish promise, he would be fired very quickly. Sure bench someone for bad play or insubordination. But to bench him for having interest in pushing his career forward (it's part of the professional game) is silly. Management would lose patience quickly with having a talented player not playing.
Players are always speculating that they want to be transferred, but they still play (a la Alan Smith at Leeds). Freier is one of the best, if not the best, Bochum players, so I don't see why the coach is too bothered by this.
