He's been released from Liverpool and avail for free.
Can we afford him? Drop Etcheverry now and we'll have the cap space.

He can play behind the front two or as true center forward.

I absolutely love Berger's game. He can dribble, pass and shoot with the best of them but he turns 30 this year and will no doubt get a contract with another team in europe. He has had 2 serious injuries in the past couple of years which is a little worrisome but he would be a better player than Etch. He won't come to MLS, not yet anyway, maybe in 3 or 4 years.

Can't afford him. Leeds is the reported destination.

Besides, Colorado would be a better place for him. It would cut down on his travel costs to Dr. Ralph Steadman, who has performed enough operations on his knee to make Jaime Moreno's acupuncturist jealous.

Well, didn't MLS pay $3 - $5 million to bring Luis Hernandez to the league ? And I knew he was going to suck because of his one-dimensional quality.

Berger is an exceptional prospect and certainly during these times, the $3 - $5 million saved in transfer fees would more than make up for his incentive package.

Perhaps they did, but Berger's salary would be waaay above what the league would afford for someone who, in all honesty, is not a huge name to American soccer fans.

With that said, Berger is my boy and a f'ing great player who always gives it all and has the ability to back it up and really change a game. I was prepared to see him leave but I'm still angry about it.

MLS won't spend that kind of money for any player for a long, long time.

... unless it's to benefit the MetroStars. ;)

I wouldn't mind seeing more players with Berger's willingness to shoot from distance.

as i am chicago through and through, i'm a bit more impartial and can say with little hesitation that DC is the last team in this league to complain about cap space and new signings.

He is a SI so United would have to move Ivanov, Stoichkov or Nelson in order to bring him in anyways.

If presented with the choice then I send Stoichkov to the bench permantly.

Berger is a wonderful player but i don't think MLS could afford him. it's definitely an interesting name to bring up, though. he's absolute class but has been hampered by serious injuries the last few years. i don't think he ever quite fit into Houllier's plans for Liverpool. why, i couldn't ever figure out. but that's another story.

I think he was too much finesse and not enough grit for Houllier. I mean look at their midfield. Hamman and Gerrard in the middle with Murphy. Those are 3 hard players with just enough creativity to pull off some great stuff occassionally, but not every game like a Juninho or even Veron. I think that more than any other league in Europe in the EPL you have be very a very balanced midfielder. By that I mean just as much grit as creativity. There are very few finesse midfielders in the EPL, but there are a lot of guys like Scholes, Veron, Viera, Gerrard etc. . ., just as good getting the ball as passing it.
