Just wanted the SoB machine to be keyed into this, if they haven't seen it. PATCO has a sight with several proposed plans (which I can't see too well on my screen). Seems to involve running service right down the waterfront. And there is this quote: "Public input is critical to the success of this Alternatives Analysis. Three rounds of Public Open Houses will be conducted throughout the duration of this study. The first round of Public Open Houses were held in January 2008. The second round is anticipated to occur in June 2008 and the third round is anticipated to occur in November 2008. If you were unable to attend an open house, please feel free to review the alternatives under consideration and let us know what you think. This website will be updated with news and project documents throughout the Alternatives Analysis and comments are always welcome."
only as far south as the naval business center, not down to chester. but it is taking into account access to the 2 casinos and the sports complex.
The main benefit for us would be the new line in Jersey, which could get more people to the stadium via public transportation (but it'd take forever)
if it stops close to a Jersey Liquor store to avoid the PA markups and rules, I'm all for welcoming our jersey friends across the river as a compromise. Though looking at the map, for non soccer related issues, that river access is very much needed. Getting to Columbus is a pain without a car... and there's a lot of unused trackage around the city. Either way, even with track already laid down, this will take a long time. As an example, SEPTA isn't replacing the Chestnut Hill line with trolleys til around 2013, and that's with most of the hardware already in place.
I doubt the 23 (Chestnut Hill) will ever see trolleys again. Look at the hachet job SEPTA did on the 15 and that will be their justification for keeping it buses.
Actually I think he's talking about the regional rail line. The R5, as this has been rumoured. As an aside all you need is for the Airport line's freight track spur heading south to be electrified and presto, instant gratification.
Unfortunately "electrified" = ridiculously expensive (see Schuylkill Valley Metro)... but we can dream.
What ever happend to the rail line that was supposed to go from CC through KoP to Reading? (http://www.ble.org/pr/archive/headline062300d.html) The PATCO proposal basically connects the stadiums to the casinos (if they ever get built) and the strip clubs on columbus ave and delaware ave...that works for me. I give it a .00001% chance of ever getting built.
I'm going to sound like a train nerd but the distance is about a mile and a half. Eletrification per mile now is about 5 milllion for two tracks. So together that's 7.5 miilion which can be extracted by adding about two dollars to the SEPTA tax over a year.
