I seem to recall that Newsweek did run some pieces on the World Cup this summer.

Besides, Newsweek is owned by The Washington Post Company, which is known for its fine soccer coverage, so let's dismiss them as being part of the anti-soccer conspiracy right now...

many of us at newsweek were shocked by that story- no one on the domestic side was involved in any way, and it was published before the u.s. made the qfinals as i recall. of the american mainstream weeklies, nwk is easily the most soccer-friendly (particularly nwk.com), and went well out of it's way last summer in that respect.

The top notch reporting we've come to expect from both the Guardian and Newsweek International.

I remember seeing this edition on the magaine rack in Korea during the tournament, alongside dozens of magazines and papers celebrating the Cup's success, and thinking how badly they had misjudged things.

a misjudgement is a good way to put it. but as i said, don't throw the baby out w/ the bath water...revd- did you really cancel?

  9. Well... the subscription runs out in 2-3 months and they already had sent me a renewal card(and they will probably send a few more before the deadline).
I was so pissed that I wrote a nasty reply on the card and sent it back.
And immediately, I started a subscription to Time magazine to replace Newsweek.

My dislike for Newsweek actually started about 2-3 months ago during the Iraqi war. Their reporting of the war often portrayed a gloomy picture for the allies(which turned out to be incorrect).
The WC2002 article was just the final straw.

if you're looking for reasons to cancel subscriptions, i'm sure TIME will satisfy that before long. and on the soccer front, there won't be any bashing...rather, nothing at all.
