Is he normally good at breaking the off-side trap? He was caught on off-side too often against Bolton. I also thought he is more like a playmaker rather than a poacher, but these days people, especially Arsenal fans, consider him as a poacher. Is his speed and finish good enough to be a typical poacher like Owen or Hernandez..?

I am 99% sure he is able to dunk. I am 5'10 and I can touch the rim. My friend is 5'9 and he can dunk.

Then you and your friend must be black. I know people who are 6 foot and over 6 foot who cannot dunk. It's not just about getting to the rim, it's about being able to get the ball over the rim as well.

No, I am Korean and my friend is Chinese. My point is that Park Chu Young is a professional athlete and should be more athletically fit than me and my friend. It is evident he trains his vertical leaps and has the facilities/coaches to reach his full potential. On the other hand, me and my friend trained our vertical leap by ourselves and trained hard enough so that we could jump to touch the rim/dunk.

Like I said, I'm 99% sure Park Chu Young can dunk easily.

check out any goal montage from his Monaco days, a couple of highlights show a long ball played over the top that he'd outrun the defender to.

Eh you're entitled to your belief. As for my belief, I think that you and your friend must be freaks of nature (i don't mean that as an insult) and PJY wouldn't get anywhere close to dunking.

As for being an aerial threat, you can't get more threatening than Arshavin

There have been several NBA players in the 5-10 or less region that could dunk...albeit the work it takes for a little guy to dunk in the NBA is probably not worth it but still. Its totally possible. I knew an Asian guy in high school who was 5-9" and could dunk on the 9fters regularly.

And to answer your question...yes. PCY is a bit of a freak. Intellect-wise and physically. He's actually rarer than a freak in that sense.

Do you belong to any other boards H? Something tells me you've done this before. I wish I had a library of clever jpgs and mpgs.

You people must know some extraordinary people. I've attended a 4A high school and then a Division 1 college. I can count the number of people under 6'1 who i've seen dunk on one hand.

I mentioned one guy I knew of and the fact that its not uncommon in the NBA.
The NBA. Should I repeat that again?

Its more than possible. And the fact his hops are recorded in a book that'll probably be kept in the KFA archives dungeon til eternity, I think its more than likely.

    That is all Im saying.

This game has a good feeling to it. One kind of on the upswing, the other petering out.

Plenty of people under 6' can dunk. My lord, Libertas, the things you are saying... just think a bit more before typing.

Anyways, Park was quite good at timing his runs but the arsenal players did not release the pass on time and I think it's because arsenal haven't had a forward like this in a long time. They've never had the sort of poacher who breaks offside traps the way Chicharito does.

It's usually been lots of passing and impressive build up play because Arsenal's forward don't have a lot of pace.

So Park can add a very dangerous threat to arsenal's attacking play in that he's quick and times his runs well like Hernandez but has better technique and is better in the air as well as able to be the creator for others(Chicharito has very little playmaking qualities).

you're right...it is about how much of the ball you can carry above the rim.

my high school teacher was 6-8 and he admitted that he never could dunk.

I'm 5-7 and I never dunked but I was able to touch the rim on few occasions:D

    I concur...agree, even!

PJY's pace will need to be respected and the back 4 on any team will have to respect that. And that can only result in stretching out their defensive coverage.

    le sigh

Height matters but not as much as in Basketball because basketball is a stupid ass sport. It limits the amount of skill and talent necessary with an incredible biased favoring very tall players.

Football or soccer on the other hand is a much more accurate portrayal of overall fitness and talent as there is 90+ minutes of action, few breaks, sprinting, ball control, agility, etc, many more factors come into play.

So to answer your first comment, "does height matter in football? this ain't basketball, fools", yes, of course height matters but not nearly as much as in basketball.

Height is important especially in Central Defenders to be able to defend against heaaders as well as in Keepers, which is self explanatory, as well as in target men or certain forwards whose main threat is headers.

Obviously the great majority of talent will likely come from smaller players who have advantages like quickness, reaction time, agility, and lower center of balance but there are players such as ronaldo who are able to have an complete all around skillset while still being over 6' tall. But he is the exception to the rule as most players 6'1" or taller severely lack the sort of skills smaller players generally have.

Height matter of course. But I agree that the best football players today are close to midgets.

But they can almost never compete in the air.

And there are players that are both strong and tall. Take Zlatan. No one can take the ball from him or push him out of the way. He is a monster.

There was alot of talk about this couple of years ago in Sweden, that you have to be big if you want to succeed. I think that is bullshit.

Any strength over your opponent is an advantage. Pretty much end of story.

In case you guys wanted to know:

    Full Line-up

Arsenal: Szczesny; Djourou, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Andre Santos; Ramsey, Song, Arteta; Walcott, van Persie, Gervinho.

Subs: Fabianski, Vermaelen, Rosicky, Park, Arshavin, Jenkinson, Frimpong.

So I'm thinking that Park will definitely get some playing time today. Albeit after Arshavin comes on and late in the game.
