Congrats to Pappa but this is a bit bitter for me. Hard to see one of our best assets go for basically nothing in return. I hope he won't be looking to "preserve" himself and not get injured for remainder of season. His words give me hope he won't do that, but in the end they are just words. We shall see.

Good for Pappa. Talented if flawed player.

Sucks we couldn't get a few dollars for him though.

I'm sure there were pages upon pages of hand wringing over losing rolfe with no transfer.it sucks, but the opportunity of retaining his mls rights is more important then a small fee.I would predict we will see pappa back in red at some point after he leaves

Fair point. It would be annoying to lose out on him should he return.

It does, but since the league keeps part of transfer fees, I highly doubt we would have made enough money to make a difference vs having him for the end of the season and retaining rights

At the very least if we are not in need of his services we could always trade his rights like we did with Conde.

Also note that we did accept a transfer for Baky and now he's signed with Philly due to the allocation rule.

it's a gamble and everyone wishes the best for Pappa, but he could very well go to Europe for a couple of seasons and find his way back to the US. If Rolfe's sharpness and speed of thought improvements are any indication i'd like to see what would happen with Pappa's game if we re-sign him 3 years from now. Think of it as a very long loan ;)

Just seems like a weird time to announce this to me... It'll make it easier for some people around here to blame him if he doesn't perform at the highest level for the remainder of the season though...

You really have no choice when the team he signed with announces it.

So first they never sell. Then when given an example, "okay they did once but that's a rare example." Then when given a few from the past year alone, it's "they do for some, but I want it more."

Just keep moving those goalposts, garbage.

So instead of corroborating your argument with supplemental evidence, you instead repeat your conclusion adding only that "it goes without saying" as if that makes your argument more convincing.

Reading your posts regarding Marco Pappa over the past few months, I have become slightly curious. What, exactly, does all of this matter to you?

You have strong opinions on the subject, but apparently do not like or approve of MLS (hence the name Don Garbage, an intentional pun on Don Garber, most likely). You were unbelievably in favor of getting rid of Pappa during the transfer season, but now you state that you think he deserves the transfer.

You continually fight with various people on this website about transfers, but I don't quite get your perspective. I think it has something to do with the notion that MLS "never" sells non-USMNT players from MLS to teams in other leagues (although this has been proven wrong). If this is your primary thesis, I do not disagree that there is a certain reticence by MLS to sell players under contract and the players just leave after their contracts are up.

The Fire have had Razov, Ralph, Beasley, Bocanegra, Thornton, Segares and Rolfe, just to name a few, leave at the end of their contracts to try their luck in Europe. While it is true that the Fire could have sold each of these players while under contract, MLS did not do so. Admittedly, they lost out on some short term revenue.

What the Fire did get was 1) the services of the players for the rest of the contract period and
    2) the ability to retain their "rights" should they return, due to MLS' strange rules. Razov, Thornton and Rolfe all returned to the Fire after their European adventures and generally came back as equally good, or better, players (Segares returned, but is not quite the same player).

There are certain tradeoffs in life. None of these players would command a seven-figure transfer fee (except, perhaps, Beasley and Bocanegra in their prime), so the return would have been quite low, especially since all of these players were coming to the end of their contracts at the time of the announcements to "go abroad". Conversely, the cost of replacing the players while under contract is quite high, especially since they were, well, under contract.

I know I am essentially "feeding the troll" here, but I am curious as to your motivation for engaging in these Internet battles over the future of one young midfielder for the Fire.

I am not really sure what you mean about heading down a road. I asked a simple question, albeit in a complicated manner.

Since you have decided to eschew punctuation and, well, words ("u"), perhaps my question was too complicated.

    Okay, here goes:

    1) "Why does this mean anything to you?"
    2) "Why do you hate MLS and Don Garber?"
    3) "What do you propose to change the system as it currently exists?"

We could open up the wage, Oil money in Euro style. Won't sell 2 more tickets tho.

The piece of silver awarded at the end of the season in EPL or La Liga is a bit different than our Anschutz cup.
Nickles and dimes don't make players better either.

I respect the whole deal with Pappa more than i do Cristiano ********ing Ronaldo, his mama and that rat ******** president at Real Madrid talkin up his move there for 3 years.
THAT is a piece of shit hack business son. Not some $500k-ish transfer fee that half goes to THE MLS and half goes to Hauptmans toilet paper budget.
