Actually I forgot to add updates. Now that this is back... Okay I'm in Tampa for a couple of days. Captain's Pizza last night, had two slices of great crust, but no flavor pizza. Had George's in Unionville, CT last month. Good stuff, greek pizza. Great sauce. Had roasted garlic on a margherita at Bertucci's last week. Tried regular garlic by mistake with rosemary ham - don't get regular garlic on a pizza - it has to be roasted. Hooked on the Naples bbq chicken and pepperoni pizza. Actually Jim this is a separate thread just for pizza.
Lococo's Pizza in Terra Linda (Marin County) California. This is the place I grew up with and the place that spoiled me forever. The local weekly newspaper had to retire Lococo's from the yearly "Best of" (giving it a permanent place of honor) because it won every single year. Then there's my more recent discovery: Abbot's Pizza in Venice Beach and their second location in Santa Monica. http://losangeles.citysearch.com/profile/11301341/ It happens to be damn good but, alas, it's not Lococo's.
Is this on California or Welton? If so, that's it. If you were on Market, it was Two Fisted Mario's, the better of the two. That place is hopping mad when LoDo clubs empty around 1:30 am. Bertucci's is usually good. Blackjack Pizza, while a chain out here, is very good. Cheesebread is awesome.
I haven't had a Bertucci's pizza since I left college. They weren't half bad. Speaking of pizza while in college ... I used to frequent a place called Felicia's Pizza right near where I went to school. I graduated in '97 so I don't even know if the place is still there or if it's still the way I remember it. But they were really quite excellent back in the day. It's only take out - or so it used to be. Anyway, it's in Ardmore, PA.
Pizza in California Sucks Ass! they put sun dried Tomah-to paste on herb flat bread with goat cheese. Its crap! Genos East is the best. If you have never tried it then you have never really tried true Chicago stly. I've had Chicago style in a lot of different places. I'm a pizza snob and am of the oppinion that no one outside of Cook county can make decent deep dish. Giordano's or Eduardo's is the place for stuffed pizza. It looks like deep dish but it's not. It's different. Uno's is crap. Its for the tourists. Papa Johns is nasty. Its ketchup on soggy bread. the crust isn't even crispy. And yes the people at Pizza Hut should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell for their "Chicago Dish" crap. I am deeply insulted that that piece of sh!t bears the name of my city.
Had some pizza in Rome, Capitan's Pizzaria, near the Satelite Hotel. Also making usual rounds in CT Olee's Naples Harry's Bertucci's Going to NYC tomorrow.. Looking for Famous Ray's Original Pizzaria. Any great pizza places I should look for?
Bu-da-bump! Hey hey HEY!!! As someone who works at Pizza Hut, I have to say that that's ruined the regular pan crust for me. Can't have the regulation personal pan pizza anymore at the shift -- that stuff has been awful lately, and the Dish crust is buttery yummy goodness in comparison. Of course, it isn't gourmet pizza, but I am broke ... ------------------------------- Skipolini's, Clayton and Antioch (IIRC) in the East Bay. Yummy stuff. Gonna have to come back and check this thread when I finally get a chance to do some traveling.
Okay I've been out for a while. Had Olee's Master Pizza a few times, usually just pepperoni. Had bertucci's roasted garlic pizza - excellent. I haven't had Naples BBQ chicken pizza in over a month. Withdrawls are setting in.
last night was cpk 5 cheese pizza (shredded and fresh mozz, romano, gouda and parm with fresh tomatoes and basil) then I added parsley and pepperoni to it. It was quite yummy.
Chicago (yes that's the name) - Laguna Beach, California Right across the street from the lifeguard tower.
best pizza i ever had (so good it was addicting) was at Big Kahuna's Pizza in Honolulu, HI. Their classic was good but they had a Chicken Teriyaki pizza that was an orgasmic experience. this place was essentially a glorified shack on the side of the road but folks came from all over te island to wait for it... YUM!
