Unless he misapplied the laws, they won't overturn it. Stuff like fouls and giving penalties are opinions of the ref and can't be touched. Of course I didn't see the game so maybe he screwed something up.

The penalty was a hard call, but there was definitely contact made by the defender on our players shirt forcing him to go down, although i'm sure he milked it as much as he could too. For me, the only "bad" call he made was the second red he gave to the Panama player. There was barley any contact made, and our player fell to the ground as if he'd been shot, but hey, that's football. Some might disagree with it, but you do what you gotta do to get the win.

Didn't see this game, but I am not surprised about this complaint. The antics of some of these concacf sides (usually the central americans) can be quite dispicable at times, and that is putting it mildly. The refereeing in concacaf is also quite atrocious. I remember Canada being screwed last WC big time against C. Rica. The refs really need to step up to the plate, it is a disgrace.

I certainly question the decision to give the Panamanian player a straight red card on that play. Even if one agrees that there was a foul, a penalty is harsh punishment in and of itself. If you think it was a hard foul, give the player a yellow card as well. But a straight red? Way over the top.

    Agreed.

I don't see how anything is overturned, though. Decisions like this are usually upheld.

The hard truth is this: Panama only won 1-0 at home, when they should have beaten El Salvador 3 or 4-0 at home. They didn't, and in away matches in CONCACAF qualifying anything can happen.

Yeah, bad calls happen all the time. I don't see anything that would be overturned.

The Salvadoran player who pretended to get hurt on the second red card should pick up a suspension though...that was pretty much the definition of unsporting.

And when Pablo Mastroeni breaks the guy's leg, all be right in the universe.

The player who got the red card for the penalty call, already had a yellow from earlier on in the game. It wasn't a straight red.

Also, i'm not to 100% sure about the rule, but isn't it right that if the last man takes out the player when he's one on one with the keeper it's an automatic red anyway?? Our player was by himself with only the keeper to beat before the Panamanian pulled on his shirt, so even if it was a straight red, the ref would have the rule book on his side for giving it.

Make the call yourself. Watch the slow-motion replays. If the defender is sitting on a yellow, he's gone in any game. How Panama can protest that is beyond me. Yank a guy off his feet?

Agreed. If Panama win this sh!t, I think we should have our WC tie against Italy overturned too.

But seriously, how Panama can protest this call is waaay beyond me. Unless Panama is playing in the Asian Champions Cup, this will get you carded anywhere else.

I'm confused as to where the foul is there. There was a pretty impressive dive though.

That being said, it's the ref's call and he made it. That's football.

As a sidenote, Marco A. Rodriguez is a God-awful ref.
    Just my 2 cents.
I don't think the officiating had much to do with Panama's elimination/ES's qualification to the next round.

i know why they are bitching....that player on the PK was clearly offsides.

that was very weak though, little contact, but not enough for a foul in the box. on the dive i'll give the man a 9.3 because he got a PK and a player off the field.

Costa Rica required Fifa special security measures for the last game of the groupstage at ES, if they were rude with the PanaNT i dont wanna think how bad they are going to treat our team...
