What is the level of play like in the Pan Ams in Brazil in a few weeks? US is sending u-20's. Are the other teams considered professional?

It's a mix. I believe Canada is sending their full team, Brazil is sending a combination of their full and youth squads (mainly because many of their WNT players are busy in Europe).

It's not on par with something like the Algarve, but for some nations there it will be the best competition they'll see for years.

That... is... unbelievable. Not only from the phrase being written, but from the reaction. Good lord - aren't the people quoted in that article now doing the same thing they're accusing "all americans" of doing? That is, lump an entire group together and make assumptions.

Can't we all just get along?

Yeah, the word 'irony' definitely jumped to mind.

in the u.s. nothing is sacred, and we're accustomed to skewering even the most highly exalted subjects, both animate and inanimate. on the other hand there is a fairly sizable group of people (i'm still talking in the u.s.) who are pushing the more politically correct approach to these things.

also, it's a basic rule (i know everyone doesn't subscribe to it) that it's easier to laugh at your family (fellow citizens) than those who are strangers (foreigners) when in each others company.

so, especially these days, any group representing the u.s. overseas should get a primer before they leave on the way to handle ones self in the destination country. in other words, "this country can take a joke, this country can't!" [very few can with regards to the u.s. these days.]

there is no question that the person who wrote on the marker board knew he/she was in brazil. but that didn't matter to the brazilians who reacted way over the top. it always seems that we humans can use the littlest thing to cause international incidents.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what does this have to do with the U-20's specifically? It seems it was a USOC thing, not US Soccer.

Since the girls had already qualified, I'd be surprised if this wasn't a team involving the players who have so far seen very little playing time in the tournament.

Not bad considering it's the under 20 WNT. Even moreso since they were without arguably their best striker in Lauren Cheney ... who had to sit out the match. I watched on satellite and the US dominated 2/3s of the game and were up 2-0 at one point in the 2nd half. The US went into a defensive shell after O'Hara's goal. Two goals in less than two minutes in the 2nd half squared matters and Mexico got the go ahead score on a penalty kick.

The US goes into the Semis as the top seed from their group and Mexico gets to play Brasil. Have fun.

The teams might meet again for the Bronze.

So the U-20s play Canada in the semis? Should be an interesting match.

A mixed Canada team (some U21ish some full teamers) beat the US U-21s in PKs in the Futbol Internacional torny in the spring.
