Training Camp; 18 to be Named to Tournament Roster FAWCETT, FOUDY, MacMILLAN AND PAGLIARULO CALLED TO TRAIN WITH U.S. NATIONAL TEAM FOR 2002 NIKE U.S. WOMEN's CUP SAN DIEGO - Defender Joy Fawcett, midfielder Julie Foudy, forward Shannon MacMillan, and goalkeeper Jaime Pagliarulo have been named to the 28-player U.S Women's National Team training camp roster by head coach April Heinrichs in preparation for the 2002 Nike U.S. Women's Cup tournament beginning September 29. Release Summary Pagliarulo makes a return to the National Team for the first time since January 2002 The camp will be used to select the Nike U.S. Women's Cup team and to evaluate players for the 2002 Women's Gold Cup. The U.S. will play Russia (Sept. 29) Australia (Oct. 2) and Italy (Oct. 9) in the 2002 Nike U.S. Women's Cup. Fawcett, the all-time leading scorer among defenders in U.S. National Team history, has played 194 times for the USA while scoring 25 goals. Foudy, the national team captain, has made 212 appearances for the United States and has scored 39 goals. MacMillan has 138 career caps and 47 goals, including 12 this year alone. Pagliarulo, who has three caps for the USA, returns to the national team pool for the first time since her call up to the Four Nations tournament in China in January of 2002. The training will serve a dual purpose for Heinrichs, who will choose 18 players to represent the USA in the tournament, but will also be using the camp to evaluate her pool in preparation for the 2002 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup to be held from October 27-November 9. The Gold Cup will serve as the USA's qualification tournament for the 2003 Women's World Cup in China.

Hey, at least Kevin Crow is working his charm in the league offices...and one day we'll get to see the pictures he must have of Ape to ensure that the second or third-WORST goalie in the league gets a shot at the Women's Cup over the goalie he cut loose and is now the league's career leader in winning percentage and goals against average, 2nd in career save percentage and 3rd all-time in wins. I Love Pags, but...... Pags is one of my favorite keepers and I really think she'll pull out of this mental slump she's in, but I can't honestly say she deserves this call-up. I gotta agree with Charge about this one - Moore deserves a shot. What is it with Ape and her goalkeeper selection?
Let's not be hard on Pags,,,, it was Crow who messed up the line up. He sat Tanaka, Box , Pickup and Fan and had Anna & Amy on defense. When you allow that many shots your going to get scored on. Moore was playing with a much more solid defense than we had. You notice since Tate took over,,,,,, the defense is solid. I say Pags deserves a chance ! ! ! !
