Pachuca's quarterfinal opponent will come from the following four teams: CAF Champions League Semis: Enyimba (Nigeria) - Al Ahly (Egypt) Dynamos (Zimbabwe) - Coton Sport (Cameroon)
Look at that - if Pachuca get past the CAF champions, their semi will be a de facto Copa Interamericana!
Hopefully this year we don't take our African opponent lightly. Al Ahly (I'm assuming they will win the African CL) will no doubt be a tough rival. They defeated América 2 years ago in this very tournament. If we get past the Africans we'll face Liga, they recently lost 0-4 to Boca Juniors' reserve side and IMO are very beatable. My dream final and result: C.F. Pachuca 3-0 Manchester United. I will settle for and be happy if we make it to the final and are competitive with United though.
Hopefully this time Pachuca will get their stuff together and win.I know they have the talent to do so.
Can't exactly say I like the format of this tournament. I wish they would at least make a random draw for those matches so that Man U and LDUQ don't just have to play 2 matches. I know the chances of one of those 2 winning are higher than those of the other teams. But that simply makes it even more difficult for the more modest sides to win.
On paper Pachuca has a way better team than they did last year, but just like last year they don't look very good going into the CWC.
CAF Final: Al Ahly (Egypt) - Coton Sport (Cameroon) Coton Sport are the first finalist from Cameroon since 1980, making Ahly very much the favorite to add a 6th CAF Champions League title to their long list of honors (making them sole record holders in African CL football.)
Yep the African Champions League winner, most likely Al Ahly of Egypt. The way we are currently playing though we won't get far, we need to improve.
Hey you know I think the last time Pachuca was in the cwc I don't think they studied their opponent maybe this time things will be different
Yeah we ********ed up against the Tunisians. Even though we dominated the match we just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. This year will hopefully be different, we will likely face Al Ahly and based on their performance against América a couple of years ago they won't be as defensive as ES du Sahel. Al Ahly has also managed to retain Aboutrika who is a quality player so they won't be easy by any means.
Don't forget that bitchass elbow caballero received, was bleeding all over and no pk was called. Had pk ALL over it, retarded ass ref didn't do squat.
CAF Final, First Leg: Al Ahly (Egypt) - Coton Sport (Cameroon) 2:0 Doesn't look like Ahly will be stopped...
Al Ahly win a record breaking 6th African Champions league championship making them the true kings of Africa without a doubt (105 titles of their 101 year history). Only team to go to Japan 3 times. Al Ahly wins 4-2 on aggregate after a draw with Cotonsport in the 2nd leg (2-2). 2 Years ago Al Ahly won the 3rd place medal after beating Club America.
Well, let's see. Much like CAF until this year you have two clubs tied at five CCL titles each - Club America and Cruz Azul. That said two Interamerican Cups and the Giants Cup give Club America the edge as 'Real Madrid' of CONCACAF. Club America - Al Ahly (2006 CWC)
Looks like Al Ahly got a new club logo in 2007: For those who don't know, the estimated fan base for Ahly is 40-50 million. Next to team star Aboutrika the player to watch is Angolan striker Flavio. He scored the temporary equalizer against Internacional de Porto Alegre two years ago:
That guy was brilliant against América. Hopefully "Ojitos" Meza and his staff have done their proper scouting.
So then guys how confident are ya that Pachuca will end this curse of CAF Clubs taking down the Mexican's at the CWC? On paper C.F. Pachuca do have overall better player quality than Al Ahly, so they should be favourites to prevail.
