just look at today's entry in the MLS N&A section ... it seems like half of the headlines, from all over the country, are focusing on the news in our little corner of the world.
Speaking of which, can someone please update the Philadelphia Pro Soccer Foundation's website with the latest news from yesterday? The PPSF MySpace page has already been updated.
I would but I have no idea where he is! He hasn't responded to an e-mail I sent him a couple of weeks ago. :-\
just moved from florida to utah...hasn't logged in here since jan 27th i see. i doubt soccer is his #1 priority right now...But really, who goes to phillysoccer.com? The PPSF hasn't really existed since the end of 06/february 07.
Okay then; I wasn't aware of his moving...all I knew was that he was job searching. Thanks for the tip.
Let me posit a question I brought up before: now that the People's State of Pennsylvania has agreed to fund part of the Chester stadium, does anyone think that in order to justify this expenditure, that more than one team is going to have to occupy this stadium so it can generate more money? how about a women's team? I understand the WPSL has an opening for its upcoming re-start. How about the Barrage of the outdoor lacrosse league? otherwise, the stadium is going to go the way of the Linc, used 10 times a year for the eagles (including preseason) and about 6 times for Temple, nowhere nearing the level of use that would generate the amount of income that would justify the tax money spent to build it. it sits there empty way too much and turns my stomach every time I see it there unused.
Here are just a few events that could be held there. Villanova Soccer, PIAA District 1, East Regional and even the State Championships (It would be nice to get the games off that awful turf in Hershey). Also besides Villanova it would be a great venue for the Soccer Seven games and NCAA playoff games maybe even the finals though I think they are played in North Carolina every year for some reason. Now since our area is in the center of the Northeast Corridor our stadium would be perfect for US National team games played on the east coast especially Women's team friendlies and age limit games. Big games should have been played at the Linc but Laurie never had the foresight to make that happen when he designed the place, which is sad. Beyond soccer my guess is that they will probably play high school state football game there too. The Home Depot Center hosts the California State Playoffs. How about PIAA, NCAA and professional lacrosse, hockey and rugby games? And of course concerts though I hope they find a way to protect the grass during those events.
Thats excellent. How do you guys feel about supporting a womens team? I mean you did support The kixx for a while.
the stadium could support all of those functions, question is, is there any plan for it to support them? does the team ownership have plans to have a women's team also? or at least be in touch with the women's league about hosting a team? I am focused on the women's team becuase I have 2 daughters, one of whom is old enough to be interested in sports and I would like a women's team for her to watch. of course, I want my tax dollars well-spent, so I want this stadium in use as much as possible. also, I missed the seaport drive reference, bryan. explain?
I'm sorry if this takes the thread off topic but isn't Chester a river port? I know that the river goes out to the sea but I just wanted clarification.
No, the MLS owners are not interested in a team, but are interested in someone who has already pitched them the idea of WPSL who has a great wealth of pro soccer experience. Seaport Drive is the name of the road that abuts the future stadium. It was called Seaport I suppose because of the numerous seagoing vessels built back in the city's heyday.
