You both make compelling points. I suggest we put the ************************ on the stand in one of his many trials so we can find out who is correct.
Don't you generally need to give up someone bigger than you? It would have to be a pretty big haul for someone of Trump's stature to gain anything from it.
Who would he rat out that prosecutors find of value? As Ian points out, he is the big fish, so what value would it be for him to turn on his underlings?
Trump gave a speech er lecture on the economy yesterday. What a total fail it turned out to be. His hardest part was reminding himself to stick to his script. Catherine Rampell. @crampell ·Funniest part of Trump's big "economy speech" today was that he kept reminding himself aloud that he was supposed to be talking about the economy, but then immediately returned to rambling about tampons or San Francisco crime or whatever. TRUMP. “It's important. They say it is the most important subject," Trump said at one point. "I am not sure it is but they say it is. Inflation is the most important but that is part of the economy. Kamala Harris wants to be in charge of the entire U.S. economy, but neither she nor her running mate — another beauty, isn't he? He signed a bill. He wants tampons in boys' bathrooms. I don't think so." Republicans have repeatedly made this claim, although the menstrual products bill Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz signed does not actually do that.
Re-indicted… BREAKING: A grand jury has returned a superseding indictment against Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. retaining the same four core charges against him for trying to subvert the election. pic.twitter.com/qkbZAjSeSl— Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) August 27, 2024
Seems like the new charges are limited to things he did with conspirators outside the government, which would not be official acts protected by the ridiculous SCOTUS ruling.
According to Bloomberg reporting, Smith's new approach is to tie Trump's actions to whether the President has a role in certifying the election -- per the Constitution, and thus Smith's argument -- he does not, so these are not "official acts." That is, unless he gets convicted and SCOTUS decides they are when it gets to them on appeal.
Weissmann and McCords latest is really good on the superceding indictment. I just find it hard to maintain interested after the corrupt Supreme Court scuttled the trial.
Posted in the face the music thread but cross posting here as it’s more relevant. Did we know there was classified evidence in Trump’s J6 DC case or is this new info? I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the DoJ had evidence that this was part of a Russian influence campaign given the news yesterday…but this is different. In that case the info peddlers weren’t charged as per the indictment they didn’t know (or more likely DoJ couldn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt they knew). Evidence of foreign influence in the J6 case would be highly prejudicial…unless…DoJ can prove Trump knew about it. I am struggling to up with evidence that would be classified in this case outside something like that. Which is a very big deal. Jack Smith just gave notice that he's filed an ex parte, in camera, under seal notice regarding classified discovery for the new DC indictment. https://t.co/JK0p2KRG5w— Mueller, She Wrote (@MuellerSheWrote) September 4, 2024
I don't get this? Once upon a long long time ago, I was at a meeting where a very attractive woman appeared very uncomfortable, and with a little discreet side talk admitted she was unexpectedly early and caught unprepared. My girlfriend at the time was practical enough to have stashed a few in my glove compartment and my car was 30 feet from the door-- I went outside and came back with the needed item and scored major points with a future colleague... I had a great girlfriend then and didn't need another-- but you never know, things change, and any little edge...So for years thereafter I carried one in my briefcase or pack or glove compartment or jacket pocket, figuring anytime you can be a good guy and make a good impression at the same time is a win-win. So it seems to me tampons in the boys' room is a great idea-- every high school male should be educated as to the advantages of helping out with a not uncommon problem. Just as every high school female should carry and use her own condom if circumstances arise. Condoms carried in purses deteriorate so much slower than those in wallets you know... it is simple self-preservation...
