Any of those would have been superior. The Garland pick seemed purely a matter of Biden tipping his cap to his old boss.
Trump is going to speak at the Bitcoin Conference in Tennessee next Saturday. He is getting paid $15 million to do so. Trump is happy to sell his integrity for cash, but I don't think Bitcoin enthusiasts will really be happy with the results of a Trump victory. I don't see him doing anything meaningful to help them. The deepest wish of Bitcoin people is that the federales buy up Bitcoin to go along with the Federal gold reserve. But we haven't been buying gold either - it's been steady after the massive sell-off in the 1960's and 70's.
What I can legitimately see is that he privatizes Social Security and allows gambling in crypto as one of the options for people to do with their funds. Social Security needs changes to actually meet the demands of retirees soon. Instead of some structural change that allows those demands to be met, I believe the Republican solution is to evaporate the liability in bad investments where the blame falls on the individual.
In case anyone is interested, here is Part 1 of a 4-part ABC (Australia) program on the orange fascist, Project 2025 and America's future. It features many high ranking officials from his first administration, various congressional leaders, Project 2025 leaders, etc.
You’re joking, but his backers will be able to convince the base that there are vast stores of Bitcoin waiting to be mined in Greenland. We just need to hasten the melting of those glaciers. So . . .
Hey, a guy like him didn't get that rich by making bad investments, amirite? It's a green and pleasant land, unlike Iceland, which is just a massive block of ice.
Here's some of the other parts to the ABC (Australia) program. I've not identified one of the parts. Part 2 or 3: Project 2025 Part 4: Trump and the future of the USA: It even mentions Biden dropping out, pretty up-to-date given that was yesterday
Trump is extremely popular among crypto-bros. Also, one thing that Trump is likely to pursue that will help crypto-bros is that he will stop the FTC from trying to regulate crypto-markets. https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/trump-bitcoin-crypto-president-jd-vance-b2582235.html
It's weird because Trump was pretty anti-crypto a presidency ago. And if he's elected and takes a public pro-crypto stance, I wonder what will happen if (or rather "when") there's another FTX-style implosion.
The thing about Trump is that he's never actually for or against anything concrete. He's for it if he thinks it will make him rich, he doesn't bother with it if it won't. And he's against anything that will be good for people he doesn't like. Like his policies being good for someone's family.
Rough day for Trump. Trump loses appeal of gag order in hush money criminal case The order leaves Trump free to speak about Bragg and Merchan. Sentencing has been scheduled for Sept 18.
Can someone remind me why Merchan moved his sentencing date? I remember being furious but o don’t remember why
The guess is to prevent the resolution of any appeal until after the election. He won't have enough time and will go to election day not only convicted, but probably/possibly imprisoned. And before you mention "first-time nonviolent offender, keep in mind he is sporting a whole mess of contempt citations, has made no pretense of remorse, and has attacked the validity of the court, and that Merchan has a reputation for severity with white collar convictees.
I believe when Trump's 6 man gang in black ruled that when the president does it, it official business, meant that Merchan needed more time to check the change with the rules of his trial and how it will affect the inevitable appeal.
The posts were on July 3 - four or five pages back if people want to review them. I didn't get upset at the time, but that's most likely because I was in Australia and not caring so much about things here while I was on vacation.
