Na. Biden will win. Trump will just abuse the legal system because they are handling him with kid gloves, not as a threat to democracy. And also Cannon. edit - WaPo live feed pointed out that this trial will remind everybody how long Trump's behavior has been going on. Both personally and also politically.
Old orange fartbag can't even stay awake on Day 1 “Trump appears to be asleep. His head would fall down … He didn’t pay attention to a note that his lawyer passed him. His jaw kept falling on his chest and his mouth kept going slack.”#SleepyDon pic.twitter.com/itkldFmc1Q— Jon Cooper (@joncoopertweets) April 15, 2024
i don’t mean the election. i mean it is how he gets away with his intimidation and obstruction of justice.
First 96 jurors brought in, and 60+ were immediately dismissed. An additional juror answered that they could be impartial, and was immediately challenged by Blanche, and subsequently dismissed. I believe the pool is 500 jurors.
I suspect there will be a lot of that. I would consider myself to be as capable of objective thought as anyone, and I don't know if I could be impartial on this one.
I imagine part of this is fear. Would you want to be part of this…knowing your name is going to eventually get out? I’d like to think I’d do my civic duty…but this would be a hard decision.
I wouldn't give a shit about that part. I would consider it an honor to render an impartial verdict on such an important case. I just don't know if I could be objective; I despise Trump that much.
I'd pretend I only knew him from TV and then if picked, browbeat my fellow jurors into convicting his ass.
I've had that thought, BELIEVE ME. But I take my civil responsibility seriously, and I'd be too honest for my own good.
He's shown zero remorse -- and I guarantee he'll attack the judge in the courtroom if given a chance to speak. Under those circumstances, he better do jail time.
Day 2 of his criminal trial is gonna be off the hook when AG James starts the penalty enforcement process. He’s gonna lose what little mind he has left. His meltdown is gonna be epic. NEW: It’s 9:12 pm, and Don Hankey’s Knight Specialty Insurance Company has not yet filed court papers to justify their $175 million bond in Trump’s civil fraud case. That filing is due *today.*— Lisa Rubin (@lawofruby) April 16, 2024
Don't forget, Fischer is being heard by SCOTUS tomorrow. He might get two charges from DC removed (when the decision comes down, probably in June).
The Good Liars try to get Andrew Giuliani to hush We tried to give Andrew Giuliani a hush money payment outside Donald Trump’s hush money trial. pic.twitter.com/oTvPAlbmxn— The Good Liars (@TheGoodLiars) April 15, 2024
Absolutely. That's what you can expect of his supporters if they were given the chance. The most important principle I can follow is doing the right thing- fighting conservatism at every turn. There's too much at stake for the principles of the game to get in the way.
So apparently Knight filed. Not only are they using Jr’s Schwab account (yes…the same one)…they apparently used the signature page from the Chubb agreement in their filing. How Trumpian would it be for Trump’s bond surety in his falsifying business records case to get indicted for falsifying business records. I don’t think this is going to be accepted even if this was just a mistake. The only collateral requirement is that the account has to maintain a balance greater than $175 million. Which is fine…except for the fact that it is already being used as collateral for another bond. If it indeed the same account….Chubb is likely going to have some problems as I imagine that would violate their own bond.
I'd be less worried about that and more worried they'd call the Proud Boys (or 3% or insert gang here) first to pay me a visit.
But it's a once-in-a-lifetime chance to convict a corrupt insurrectionist. Biden got like 90% of the vote in Manhattan. So Trumpy jurors are likely young Midwestern transplants or Wall St types who are too busy taking selfies in restaurants to want to sit on a jury. Most Trumpy Wypipo reside in the outer boroughs
I realize I’m setting myself up in a Charlie Brown/Lucy/football scenario but I really believe you’re wrong here.
I’ll concede for argument’s sake that Barr made prosecuting Trump for obstruction of the mueller investigation impossible for Garland…but I don’t think I’ve seen the official defense of Garland explanation as to why this was never charged. Perhaps Maddow addressed this later in this piece (I didn’t see it) Rachel #Maddow "So if you find yourself wondering why alleged crimes that happened in 2016 are only coming to trial now, well, one of the reasons is that Donald Trump's Justice Department succeeded in delaying and ultimately stymying the federal investigation." pic.twitter.com/i0p04lzfWd— Sarah Reese Jones (@PoliticusSarah) April 16, 2024 How does Barr tank a prosecution of an un indicted co-conspirator when his DoJ already secured a conviction of the other conspirator?
I wouldn't worry so much about that. If the evidence against him is so overwhelming, a bit of bias on your part won't contribute to sending an innocent man to prison.
Elie Honig had a bunch of coverage about this - I forget all the details But IIRC it was SDNY that didn't go ahead with it. i don't know if it ever got as far as Garland
