Hmmm… blank on my ipad. Will try computer. update: works on desktop computer. inconvenient though - can’t cast to tv, can’t walk around like w ipad
Ok - now I see what we are doing - playing a skinny diamond 4-4-2 and on attack Miller pushes high on the right and Lepley pushes wide on the left, morphing into a 3-5-2.
Yeah I'm on the dub stage on my laptop. Luckily an easy mix day so I can pretent to work while watching the game. shhhh......
I retired in 2022 - don’t have to close office door or use headphones anymore. For a couple years at work we had an IT nazi nannying everything that came to our computer. Complete idiot. Checked his education - bought an CS degree from an uncredited online “school”. He got in a screaming match with a coworker and we canned his ass!
Oh man a great pass from Sanabria springs Nasicimento and he hits it off the post. He could have 2 goals in these 2 CVI games if he was a little more composed in the finish.
I think a lot of the improvement is just that our second unit is much better than St. Louis' second unit.
Magana is the only player out there that wasn't with the team last year. Everyone else got MLS minutes. So some of that suffering last year will result in a deeper team this year.
I disagree. Our success may be due to weaker opponent but I was noticing our coordination in movement, something lacking in the P-Reus-P midfield.
Notice how our mids are constantly looking behind them, checking their shape? Also they are firming triangles when in possession and moving as a unit. This is the stuff I’ve been missing the last few seasons, which have been dominated by individual 1 on 1 play.
So you're saying that the young players who have been brought up in Vanney's system and coached by Vanney and his coaching staff for the past 3-4 years are suddenly free styling on their own?
The last couple years a lot of it has been that Oec and Paintsil are almost completely 1v1 players. They see their job as using their individual skills to be primary goalscorers and seem to never have learned how to play as a midfield unit. But none of Vanneys Galaxy teams have worked well as a unit. It’s always been bad defense with
I would give Vanney credit if any of his last 5 years we looked organized. Or if our teams seemed to get better as season progressed. But I see no improvement over time except last season, when the young guys came in. I think they brought this understanding with them, but I may be wrong.
Definitely the formation change is helping - the "width" in the midfield is part of the midfield and, like you said, not Pec and Paintsil who really are just forwards playing wide and not working in tandem as part of a midfield.
