We're back baby! A depleted LA Galaxy take on rivals LAFC in the first El Trafico of 2026. I'll be at the game and expecting heart break, but you never know, maybe our short-handed Galaxy will surpise us.....derby games are always weird and wild....
Ready as always for the same as before.. I hope there is a great plan afoot to replace our 3 big transfers.. either way, as Drago said before losing the fight, his wife and his country “to the end”
The Galaxy-LAFC game broadcast just got upgraded to Fox as part of a Friday night doubleheader. Presumably, they will be pushing these games in commercials and on air mentions during both World Cup semifinal games. Fox and the MLS have made a TV change. Fox will now broadcast an MLS doubleheader in primetime this Friday. Nashville-Atlanta will be at 8PM, and LA Galaxy-LAFC will be at 10:30PM. LA Galaxy-LAFC was originally scheduled to air on FS1.— Manny Soloway (@sportsontvguy) July 13, 2026
Yeah it’s a shame for us and the league that we are just not ready for this at the moment. Even LAFC going through changes having just sold Ordaz who plays significant minutes. I get why mls did this but it would be a much more compelling match up in a month. im excited for the possibilities of our team with a refresh and new DP investment. We weren’t going anywhere this season (and surely still aren’t)
It’s a derby. We might smash them 4-0, they might do the same to us. Might be a 95th minute game tying or winning goal. Like y’all I would love to face them in a better place, but all bets are off on this one.
INJURY UPDATES: Only player ruled out for the game is Joao Klauss (foot). No other players listed.LAFC has four players listed as "Out." LAFC is an interesting one. They went into the season with some thought perhaps the strongest roster ever and all in to win the champions league and then they crashed out and ended the first half of the season looking like shit. There was a lot of discussion that some players were on their way out before the break. That includes Martinez and Eustaqio who I think was on a loan that ended 6/30 (just here to prepare for North American World Cup) now they go and sell one of their best young players (Ordaz) that had gotten a lot of minutes. Hopefully the LAFC we see in the second half of the season is the one we saw at the end of the first. Hopefully their manager continues to seem shit and he keeps Son away from goal.
I just hope the Gs don't get embarrassed with this being on Fox and MLS supposedly riding the coat tail of the World Cup glow. It could go a long way in making new fans for the club or driving new fans away to that other club.
How much coattails will there actually be? for example did you have any idea that there are matches tonight? I had no idea. What chances do random World Cup fans have of knowing that MLS is playing four matches tonight and two matches tomorrow? I hope I’m wrong of course and that MLS really does see a huge boost in popularity. I highly doubt it though.
Hence the qualifier, "supposedly" Hoping MLS gets a boost as well. The more popular it gets, the sooner MLS can move away from its current cap structure.
is this boost, also why they're cramming an All Star game in midweek on the 29th, I would have hoped they would forego an All Star game considering the league has been on hold for over a month. I guess time will tell how they promote it but I'm not holding my breath that MLS will promote the game the right way, I don't usually watch the All Star games but I may watch just to see Mora before his move across the pond
Here's something for those who think El Trafico can be decided by analytics July 17, 2026 MLS Match Preview for @LAGalaxy v @LAFC pic.twitter.com/J7PFfAQJrn— Soccer DataVizer (@soccerdatavizer) July 17, 2026
FTFY: Here's something for those who think El Trafico can be decided by an LLM cosplaying as a soccer analyst.
It’s been so long since our last match and we’ve shipped out 4 players, anyone want to guess at the starting lineup? Here’s one just to start an argument. Thommy - Paintsil - Miller Reus Cerillo - Haak Nelson - Glesnes - Garcés - Yamane Marcinkowski
I'm assuming it will be the same lineup we started with for the Club America game, with the possible exception of Marcinkowski replacing Micovic. The Glesnes Haak pairing seems to have solidified and my guess is with Miller and Garces coming back from injury, they are less likely to be starters out of the gate. It's possible Vanney goes with Paintsil in the middle for tactical reasons, but the advantage of Reus as the false 9 is that Sanabria and Wynder are behind him to shore up the defense and keep up the press.
Your saying Reus as false nine versus as a ten makes a lot more sense I'd been going from memory and had completely forgotten about Sanabria and Wynder, too. They should help provide some coverage and engines.
I'm guessing: Thommy----------Reus----------Paintsil -------Wynder---Cerrillo---Sanabria Nelson-----Haak----Glesnes---Yamane ---------------------Micovic Assuming that Marcinkowski, Garces and Miller will make the bench but maybe aren't ready to start yet. The only wrinkle would be if the newly-signed Taylor starts on the left and Thommy slots into the advanced midfield role in place of either Wynder or Sanabria.
Two teams with issues/going through changes tonight. The X factor might be that Bouanga and Son can be the best players on the pitch on their day. Our 11 night have more experience playing together than theirs. They have injuries in midfield and in the back. Interesting they didn’t start Martinez.
