We wrap up our 3-game road trip in Seattle. The good news is that it's the Saturday night national game broadcast on FS1. So more people will see the Galaxy crack and fold like a cheap suit, giving a national spotlight to Vanney's shortcomings.... Let's Go Galaxy!!
Would have loved a result in SKC to just sort of blow off this game. For me, I would use it as a learning exhibition. Let's use youth as much as we can. -------------Nasci Joe-------Sanabria---------Pec -----------Parente--Wynder Nelson-Garces-Glesnes-Cuevas -----------------Micovic (if it helps us sell him)
Garces added to the injury report LA Galaxy Julian Aude - Ankle (Out) João Klauss - Foot (Out) Emiro Garces - Foot (Questionable) Seattle Sounders FC Pedro de la Vega - Knee (Out) Nikola Petković - Knee (Out) Yeimar Gómez Andrade - Hamstring (Out) Alex Roldan - Hamstring (Out)
Matt Doyle thinks Vanney is coaching for his job tonight, or "probably should be." The latter might be true, but I'm not sure that a loss at Seattle would be the straw that actually breaks the camel's back. I do think ending the first half of the season with three straight losses to SKC, Seattle, and Houston might be though, especially since the World Cup break provides the obvious opportunity for a re-set of the team with what will amount to be a new training camp and a transfer window.
Interesting. COG thinks he is probably safe until the end of the season. Josh thinking he has a long leash and he must make the playoffs to save his job. Let's hope he is wrong. Also his sidekick, Sophie I think, had an interesting comment, she felt Vanney reverted to his old lineup against KC because he fundamentally doesn't like winning 'ugly' and he wants to play his style of soccer. Both agreed he got everything wrong vs KC.
I had this thought too yesterday. I was thinking it was so stubborn of Greg to move away from what was recently working to start Reus.
Vanney was one of the original ball-playing defenders. In part, that's because his background was a technically skilled forward/attacking midfielder in an era when defenders were more about brute force and power. Even in college at UCLA, he played some midfield and didn't really fully convert to a defender until he was a professional. Here is a link to an article from 2019 that reads like it could have been written today. Vanney always struggles with finding a balance between possession and pragmatism. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/13...is-style-to-be-the-manager-toronto-fc-needed/
Several changes in the lineup, including Haak and Glesnes at center back, Yamane at RB, Thommy and Wynder in the midfield and Reus up top The eleven for tonight 📝🔗: https://t.co/Cgn6kZTc0m | @ModeloUSA pic.twitter.com/QwYm6x1W3b— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) May 17, 2026
Who here thinks the Cerrillo - Wynder -Thommy central midfield will get it done in Seattle? I’d be shocked.
They're not pressing in the 1st as it was expected on the 3rd game in a week, saving themselves for 2nd. We gotta try to score in 1st.
