Galaxy kick of the seccond round of the CCC with a home leg vs. Mount Pleasent of Jamaica. Again, a game that on paper we should win handily. But lately the Galaxy haven't been making anything easy for themselves. I expect Vanney will field a mostly first team lineup. Reus and Yoshida could possibly see the bench with Thommy or Sanabria for Reus and Haak for Yoshida. And of course it seems unlikely we'll see Paintsil in this game, although I haven't seen an injury report yet. And we will probalby see Marcinkowski in goal again - which, let's admit it, might actually be an upgrade.... Let's Go Galaxy!!
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/70...ons-cup-la-galaxy/?source=user_shared_article Gregory should not be playing any key starter over the age of 30, if the Galaxy can't put at least 3 goals behind them with the back ups on the roster they have, what are the Galaxy even doing as a franchise
This is from Nick Webster, for those who recall him from the old Fox Soccer Channel https://www.insideworldfootball.com...e-get-us-visas-la-galaxy-champions-cup-clash/
It's a shame that this team isn't going to be able to field their complete squad. Feel bad for the players, underdogs or not they deserve the chance to compete. If the current administration changed the rules for entry, then Concacaf should've known about it for a while now and made the necessary calls or should've started the visa process sooner to have it sorted out by the time the first leg rolls around. Can Jamaica do the same to our players and deny them visas for the return leg?
Yeah, we're at war, prices are skyrocketing, we now have concentration camps in our country and are squashing democracy and freedom of speech AND ruining soccer tournaments. But we are keeping those 7 transgender athletes from playing sports, so it balances out....
I can only imagine the tantrum this regime would have if it was reversed and it was a US team that had to go through this many hoops to play a game and honestly the way the things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if other countries start to ban US citizens from traveling to their countries because of this regime. sad state of affairs when everything is political and it interferes with sporting events and tournaments, that people want to see and go to, just to feel a sense of normalcy and escape from current events for a few hours
Just in case anyone held out hope that Paintsil's injury was very short-term Vanney classified Paintsil’s injury as a “mild hamstring issue.”“It will probably be a couple of weeks at least.”#LAGalaxy— Damian Calhoun (@DamianCalhoun) March 10, 2026
For a player who sprints for a living, "a couple of weeks at least" translates to at least a month, maybe more.
If this is correct, then last minute efforts to obtain visas for the 10 Mt. Pleasant players were unsuccessful Jamaica's Mount Pleasant FA, which meets the @LAGalaxy Wednesday at Dignity Health Sports Park in a round of 16 game in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, was unable to secure visas for 10 first-team players. A CONCACAF spokesman released the following statement on the matter: (1/3)— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈🇵🇷 (@kbaxter11) March 10, 2026 (2/3) CONCACAF is aware of the situation and has been in communication with, and providing support to Mount Pleasant FA regarding the U.S. visa application process for several of its players ahead of the club’s Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 first-leg match against LA Galaxy— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈🇵🇷 (@kbaxter11) March 10, 2026 (3/3) Each club may register up to 35 players and is responsible for submitting visa applications within the timeframe required by the diplomatic missions of the countries to be visited. The club had ample time to complete the visa application process following the official draw— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈🇵🇷 (@kbaxter11) March 10, 2026
That sucks about Paintsil. But being out a month or so was my hope when I saw how he pulled up. And really sucks for Mt. Pleasant. I mean, we should beat them handily regardless of the players they bring, but they should still get to bring their team to play.
can the Galaxy loan MTP some players from VCFC, I'd love to see how the kids would do playing a different system, it would be actually worth watching. and by the statement above it seems that CONCACAF in blaming MTP for this predicament, I'd like to see what MTP has to say about that statement, if they acknowledge they messed up or throw it back on CONCACAF
You're not the only one curious about this Have no idea of the actual facts, but this sure reads like Concacaf throwing the Jamaican club under the bus. https://t.co/1KnlW2kN9Z— Ian Nicholas Quillen (@IaqDiesel) March 10, 2026
There's some suggestion floating around the internet that Mt. Pleasant waited to apply for visas until the Galaxy secured the match rather than applying for both the US and Panama at the time the pairings came out and they knew they would play one of us. Not sure it that is true, but that would track complaints about Jamaica's federation and financial mismanagement, not paying players etc (even though this was a club and not the federation itself) UPDATE: I should add that this would explain why they got visas for some, but not all players. They may have calculated that there would be plenty of time under normal circumstances even waiting for the Galaxy - San Miguelito result, but didn't factor in players from the travel ban countries, who would have required an extra layer of process or review by a separate office.
FYI; TV Coverage is listed as starting on FS2 at 6:20. The Galaxy site still lists the starting time as 6:30. This could mean that the game will start on time for those tending to tune in a few minutes late. Of course, Fox could run 20 or 30 minutes of pregame nonsense to get in even more commercials so I am not making any guarantees. If you care FS2 has the InterMiami v Nashville game on at 4:20.
Conflicts between nations are always going to be an issue no matter the administration in power on each side; and such conflicts can always cause a potential negative effect on any international sports competition being hosted within said nations. The primary responsibility to ensure that international competitions are properly organized to account for things such as ticket sales, stadium availability, sponsorships, plus any and all paperwork for travel, expenses and whatnot, will always ultimately fall to the leagues that are hosting said tournaments who need to be making sure all parties involved are getting said things in order and in order on time. CONCACAF chucking MTP under the bus as solely responsible for players not being available is just another example of accountability avoidance on their part as far as I am concerned as there is plenty of blame to be shared by all.
I would start Gabriel Pec because he won't play on Saturday and he needs to score his first goal. Joao Klauss will probably start too as Nascimento is suspended, but hopefuly Ramos Jr. will get minutes. Actually I'm all for playing a strong lineup (maybe minus the veterans Reus and Yoshida), win big as other MLS teams did in the last round, have a comfortable advantage before playing the scrubs in the away game next week, and focus on the next away MLS game at Portland.
Barring any last minute injuries, I think the clear starters are Marcinkowski, Glesnes, Nelson, Sanabria, Haak, Pec and Klauss, as they either didn't play or didn't play the full 90 on Saturday, except for Glesnes, who basically has to start every game until he just can't go. I would assume that Yamane might also start so that Cuevas can play in the midfield again. Beyond that, who knows.... Maybe: -----Cuevas-----------Klauss------------Pec ---------------Thommy-------Sanabria ----------------------------Cerrillo Nelson---------Haak-------Glesnes----Yamane ------------------------Marcinkowski That has Glesnes and Cerrillo as the only players out there who went the full 90 on the weekend up in Colorado. Subs: Miller, Wynder, Ramos Jr., Reus, Yoshida, Parente, Aude Build a big lead in the first half then early in the second sub in Ramos Jr for Klauss and Yoshida for Cerrillo (moving Haak up to D-Mid) to keep some fresh legs for the weekend game.
I like this lineup and feel bad the Glesnes is going to be asked to be Superman in the back without a break for the next few games straight. For me the main thing I want to see is Reus on the bench and Thommy going at least 65 minutes as a starter.
I forgot about Nascimento being red carded while not in game and getting involved in the last minute dust-up. This puts Vanney's decision to pull Klauss in last Saturday's game in a better light. I would still probably start Ramos and hold Klauss as a reserve if the Galaxy need a goal.
Julian Placias signed to a short term deal from VCFC https://www.instagram.com/p/DVwsiGhElUJ/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
Finally we get to see the Haak and Glesnes pairing and it looks like we get the Cerrillo, Sanabria, and Wynder grouping in MF with Thommy playing out left with Pec on the right. We'll see if that's how they line up Our 11 for #LAvMTP 🛡️🔗: https://t.co/EF1Imc3Wuz pic.twitter.com/draJYDrnjp— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) March 12, 2026
I don't know if this is worth noting, but Reus isn't in the 18. We shouldn't need him, but I wonder if he has any issues to be concerned about.
