It's too long. You see 4-day turnarounds are pretty standard in most soccer tournaments. If they can do it for the World Cup, Euro, Copa no reason they can't for MLS. Home-away. It's a grind. It's attrition. It's playoff soccer.
I thought garces' clearance was poor on Colo's goal. Getting some height on that clearance would give everybody time to set their defense.
Whoscored gives it to Pec for his G+A Footmob gives it to Puig, interestingly Sofascore gives it to Pec as well
So over 3 weeks until our next game? That's just ridiculous. Again, all momentum for the team, and for us the fans is gone. This whole playoff including MLS Cup could be over by next Sunday if they played every 4 days. I'm even more upset because I am out of town Thanksgiving week...ughhh.
Riqui Puig is such a killer. Every other team should hate him. First time since Landon Donovan I've seen a breakaway goal like that scored for the Galaxy. Both of Puig's goals were Donovan-like. We showed good depth in our team during this series, and good patience in finding our spots to attack against Colorado. I think Armas made a mistake taking Kevin out - he looked like he was taking it personally. This absolute domination of Colorado means nothing for the rest of the playoffs, but it feels good in the moment! Well done, Greg Vanney, I think you've put the right team out on the field and they are playing well. Onward!
Worse thing about this format is the international break. They ought to condense this first round to 3 games in 8 days. Make the lower seed host a.midweek game. Toll on to the next round before the international break. Oh well. I’m sure we won’t forget how to soccer in 3 weeks.
Just finished watching the game. Glad we wrapped this up quick. But that break is gonna be too long. Hope it doesn’t ruin our rhythm. But it does look like Vanney has found his best starting XI. Onward!
They should just go back to 2-leg ties for Semis and the Conf final, like proper football. First round is single game with higher seed playing at home. It's funny, there was an LAFC post on social media talking about the Galaxy winning championships when there were only a few teams in the league: -Our last championship (2014) we had to travel to RSL and SEA, playing 5 total matches,2 away from home, to win MLS Cup -In 2012, we travelled to SJ (who were first in the West that year) and SEA, playing 6 total matches, 2 away from home to win MLS Cup. -In 2011, we travelled to NYRB, playing 4 matches total, 1 away from home to win MLS Cup. -In 2022, LAFC played 3 home matches to win an MLS Cup. bring back real playoffs and ties man.
I almost wish the score had remained 2-1. That was a much more mature and composed performance. We’ve struggled with game management all season long so it was nice to see we can do it. As @Geneva said Puig’s goals both reminded me of Landon’s late goal in the 05 playoff game against Colorado. Potato quality video. Forgot about the atrocious officiating in that game.
JMac with an interesting "gesture" towards Colorado fans (I'm assuming? hard to say) after the final whistle is blown Mcarthy se la rifo 🤣💙🤍💛 #lagalaxy pic.twitter.com/Ku48O9vrmx— Ivan Saldaña (@taco_saldana02) November 2, 2024 Wouldn't surprise me if he gets fined for that (since it was caught on the broadcast)

How Mastroeni got away with not getting a yellow for his tackle on Landon is beyond me. At least MLS moved away from their crazy idea of using American football lines on soccer pitches.
I have no particular love for a 2 game format. However, I don't like the current rules for a 3 game playoff. My preference would be to use the same point scoring as the regular season: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie. PKs would only be taken if the two teams have the same point total after 3 games. This would eliminate cheap wins and put a premium regular game play.
Went to DHSP for the Galaxy viewing party at Legends Plaza, it was a fun atmosphere! The game was basically what I was expecting as a whole. They had more juice and desperation, we played a more conservative game looking to pounce on their mistakes/pushing too many numbers forward. Got super lucky on Pec's goal, that took a lot of the pressure out of the game for us. A little too early IMO, we relaxed a bit. Props to them for the nice shot, but Garces committed a cardinal sin defensively, NEVER clear a ball towards the middle. He did, they capitalized. Learning moment for the kid who otherwise had another great game. He is so good! Happy for Paintsil on his goal before the half, he needs that injection of confidence moving forward. Thought we were in control for most of the second half, if I had to complain about a couple of things it's 1.) we gave them too many corners, eventually the dam will break as we've seen so many times this season, and 2.) we still allow too many dangerous crosses to be whipped into the box especially from our left side. Their best chances came from Harris whipping in cross after cross. Hopefully this ridiculously long break between games will give the defense/wingers the opportunity to work on limiting those chances. Lastly, Puig is turning into Landon Donovan right in front of our eyes. Obviously not in terms of pedigree (hello Barça), but in terms of his love for the team, desire to win, and ability to step up in the playoffs. He is our MVP and it isn't even close. Looking forward to the next round, we have something special cooking here... Go Galaxy!
