Second to last game of the season and I think I’ve finally figured out why this team frustrates me despite being in first place - undeniably talented, tons of heart, at times brilliant football, but dumb. So, so dumb. How many times this season have we got yellows for dissent, for kicking the ball away or delaying a restart? We have two speeds: reverse and foot to the floor; zero game management ability at all. Still first season in Galaxy history to go undefeated at home* kind of blows my mind. Not the ‘98 team not either of the balanced schedule Supporer’s Shield teams, but this all gas no breaks edition of LA. Go figure. * won’t truly count of course with the Rose Bowl game.
We were lucky. Vanney waited too long to sub and still got it wrong. Does Painstill want to be here? The referee had an atrocious performance. Glad we won
I'll post the whoscored ratings tomorrow, now that I know that they adjust them after a certain amount of time. I'm going to bed. 1 more game. Away in Texas. We need to beat that losing streak in the state of Texas.
It looked like Paintsil was holding his hamstring. I hope it's not too bad. As frustrating a finisher as he's been recently, his speed helps unlock the counter and he works hard to track back. 1842799154529227154 is not a valid tweet id We saw some of Garces' weaknesses a few times tonight. His aggressiveness can be over the top at times, leading to free kicks in dangerous places. He also isn't quite as comfortable as Neal playing out of the back under pressure.
I like that Marco even jumped in, providing moral support while at home 1842804798120493363 is not a valid tweet id
I'm not saying the lack of discipline in the Austin squad last night, including Wolff coming after Vanney, got him fired, but it couldn't have helped his cause. If they just wanted to get rid of him for not making the playoffs, they might have let him coach the last game and done it then 1842971133244760095 is not a valid tweet id
I dislike that Paintsil isn't in the picture. It suggests his injury still required work or prevented him from coming over for the picture even though he had gone to the locker room quite awhile earlier.
Austin finished 2nd in the Western Conference in 2022 when Driussi had 25 goals. His lack off production since then (11 in 2023, 6 this year) has been mirrored in Austin's failure to make the playoff's the last two seasons. I can't speak to Wolff as a coach, but Anthony Precourt's involvement as owner along doesn't speak well of the front office.
As we all know from our own super goalscorer a few years back, its the lack of quality around them that usually tanks everything.
