This. Watching these games on replay is stressing me out. I know we will come back, but do we need to spot the opposing team a goal? hi everyone! CCL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have been on the road and watching games late. Appreciate everyone's commentary and solidarity. First halves are nerve-wracking, comebacks frequent and awesome. Watched DC United and Nashville, too, what a finish. I love how Puig is so excited at goals and celebrates like a happy kid. Could he be in MVP contention? Cerrillo is one of my guys, and it's been a bold move by Greg to solidify his starting role. But he still needs to work on loose passing and turnovers at times. I'm happy with Garces and the generally improved defense. Our offense looks like it could even score more than we do, if the coordination was a bit better. My husband says our chaotic quick attack confuses the defenses. What I don't understand really is how CO collapsed and we dominated in the 2nd half. Maybe you geniuses can explain it to me. One thing I did notice is that Colorado seemed to be trying a lot of hopeful passes towards their front line, bypassing the midfield, that we intercepted and turned into counters. But why didn't they possess better, especially up 1-0? And there is Trickhog's theory that we conserved energy in the first half, which is smart considering the altitude. But then why should CO be tired? I didn't hear much analysis on this from the announcers either. Well done, Greg and minions.
I don't claim to be a genius, but I will point out that Colorado played over the weekend in Minnesota, then had to travel to play at home in Colorado mid-week. Its the dirty secret of half the home games is that it can feel like an away game if all you're doing is traveling in between.
Only watched the second half of the game, but it seemed like we were playing 5 in the back some of the time, with one of the defensive midfielders lining up between the two centerbacks. Maybe an effort to fill the space.
Here is a heat map for Cerrillo and Delgado. (A heat map which incidentally looks a lot like a man taking a peaceful nap on his side. Whoscored’s editorial comment on their work rate??! ) They played like dual DMs, covering the middle defensive area pretty well. I don’t know if it shows up but there is some light blue showing they occasionally dropped back into the box to defend, especially on the right-center area. Cerrillo, Delgado: Interestingly Brugman’s heat map is very different. He pushed forward and to the right for some reason. Maybe he wanted to be near Pec so he could rack up some assists. Brugman:
