Perez showed us a few things, didn’t he?

Puig’s run was ridiculous and I don’t blame Omar or the other two defenders for losing track of him. It took something special to beat that keeper. Of course he used his right foot.

Great to get two must-wins. Season is on track but LOTS of improvement needed.

Very satisfying win, but there was a little twinge of sadness seeing Omar get beat like that.
As a footnote, I really liked what I saw from Johny Perez.

Still not an emphatic win, but we are trending in the right direction and getting the points we need. And honestly, Dallas has been our bugaboo team the past few years so any win against Dallas is a good game for us. I watched the Chicago game tonight and they are absolutely dire. No excuses not to get our first 3-game win streak under Vanney this Saturday night.

I agree on Pérez, and I must say I'm disappointed Vanney didn't use him much. He offers something completely different what Fagundez brings. You can see Pérez can be deadly against tired legs.

Puig really is something else. We are quite luck to have him. Maybe Perez will get an extended run against Chicago? He certainly looks the part. I like our resilience. We are finding ways to draw on the road and win at home. Even against teams we feel we are superior to that can be tough.

Perez’s corners were consistently dangerous. I’ve been wanting to see more of him for some time now. Maybe this weekend.

Only caught the first half, but I really liked the first 10-12 minutes of play. Really good heads up play from everyone. After that it regressed to a more rote and individualistic style of play.

If we can build on those first few minutes this could be a decently competitive team. (I realize that’s a very backhanded compliment for a team that’s second in the west with a 7-7-2 record)

So weird that when we have bunched up games Vanney feels a need to rest most of the players except the hardest working one - Puig. If anyone should be coming out at minute 75 or 80 it should be him. Not because he isn't still effective but because running him 90min every game increases his injury risk.

I thought he looked injured around minute 75. Wasn’t moving around too well. Guess I was wrong.

tbh his play at the end reminded me of Riqui, honestly, fast paced, capable of carrying the ball forward. I haven't seen much of the vision for the passing yet but in terms of speedy attacking play he's right there, just needs to be more dangerous right in front of goal.

I was amused watching this live, I remember many had joked about Riqui using Diego's hair stylist, so I find it pretty apropos that Diego (on the bench) came over himself to celebrate with Riqui in this manner.

Overall this wasn't a bad game.
Yes we dominated but we translated that into 3 goals.

we did allow them a tiny handful of chances.
The 1 goal they scored is not on JMac at all, I honestly point to Maya. (their) Delgado had a halfstep back into space which Maya completely missed, which gave him the space to receive and shoot. The shot itself was a hard one off the underside of the bar, talk about perfect placement, JMac ain't saving that.

My thought was that Neal dropped instead of marking his man who came open and executed a really great one time shot. However, I was always a crappy center back. Who's fault really? Neal or Maya?

    Highlight Time Folks

    My 3 big takeaways.

    1. We still are terrible at PK's despite our goal lol.
    2. Blonde's don't only have more fun but they also score more goals.
    3. It feels good to be a good team again despite Dallas being bad.

And so to celebrate I give you Rod Stewart,...

I guess the question is who is marking him. It looked like Maya was closer but you could argue its on both of them. When the ball goes out wide, Neal drops back to stay in line while it looks like Maya is trying to track the runner. However, Delgado (theirs) stops his run and Maya continues. That's what I was referencing. When the cross comes in Maya at least attempts to step forward in a reactionary way.

That being said it was 5 Defenders marking 2 Attackers. Somehow one was left wide open
    o_O

I hope this is something they review on film.

It's so fun to watch this team - this year we find ways to win. How long has it been since we could say that?

I have a question for everyone - our defense seems to be designed to sit back and absorb everything. We don't pressure too much, even when the opponent has the ball 18 yards out. They have time to stop, look up and try to pick out a pass. Teams seem to find it relatively easy to get into our penalty box. We play out of the back and teams press us high immediately, but we rarely press other teams high up - it's sit back and and allow all types of passes in.

Dallas on the other hand, pressures us relentlessly, and you could see long stretches last night when we couldn't find an open player. We kept trying to go over the top to Pec, but he doesn't have the speed. So is this by design? Is the defense what Vanney wants - almost no pressure, invite them in, possibly saving our legs for the attack? Or does the team just not do what Vanney wants? Can we win a Cup this way?

I agree but the last time he did that, the game changed on us and it allowed the other team to score and snatched a win right from under us. I think he was remembering that situation. Dallas was simply not put to bed and they were still looking like they could make something happen on a break.

Not to nitpick as a win is a win but, we scored on a nice play, on a pen (barely) and an individual effort against a team with a worse defense than ours. I would like to see more goals on set plays and run of play. That we can use against any team. The other goals have a heavy odor of luck which I'll take but that's not a weapon, it's luck.

Dejan's interview makes me think we don't really have a designated pk taker.
