This is what I want to see out of the gate,... --------DeJan---Chicha----Costa -------------Rayan---Delgado ------------------Brugman Edwards--Williams--Sega---Julian ---------------------Bond Subs will be based on who is winded. However for the midfield I want to try to go like for like as much as possible. Subs: Aguirre for Brugman Grandsir for Costa Cabral for Chicha only if he can't go 90 By the way,...has Dunbar gone down to G2? He has not even made the bench for at least 7 games
Dunbar has been a regular starter for the G2s for most of the season. It seems to have helped him, as he’s finally started to put some balls in the back of the net (7 goals and 3 assists in 21 USL games thus far). He was only on the bench for the senior team once in the Portland game June 18 when we were short players.
If, at the very least, Dunbar can develop into a player like Jonathan Lewis, he'd be a valuable player for the Gs and I'd be pretty happy.
I'd like to see the same 11 as the last game from the start for a few reasons: 1) I thought the midfield trio was strong and want to see more of that and it seems a sensible set up to start an away game 2) I want to see if Costa and Cabral can have as much impact for a second game running as they did in the last one. 3) I think we are better off with a more conservative back 4 and Gaspar having more defensive instincts then Edwards might help against Dallas' impressive attackers. 4) I think Williams/Zaveleta looked a good pair and want to see more of that. 5) I do want to see more Dejan but for a road game I don't think you start two strikers yet. I don't think you bench Chich yet either. He did some great things out there last weekend even if he's not scoring. He's streaky. It could happen any moment.
If the weather is going to be 90 degrees resting Chicha in the 2nd half might be required after all. Because of this I wouldn't even be surprised if Vanney made him a sub and started DeJan. Same with Costa making Grandsir the starter. Because Zaveleta was cramping up he might not start either. Vanney will likely be thinking Draw Draw Draw. We will see. I hope I'm wrong.
This is why I am so glad that Brugman is here now. Edwards is a good defender and is excellent at advancing to midfield. Because of this however he wants to attack more than defend, which of course leaves his flank open to getting attacked on a counter. Araujo is better at getting back on defense than Edwards; but he also often gets caught out in the exact same way. . The fix for this would be to either,... 1) Play with left and right midfielders that are willing to cover the left and rightback defensive spots upon a fullback overlap. 2) Play with fullbacks that prioritize defense over attack. 3) Play with a center midfielder willing to commit to central defensive cover so that a center back can slide over and cover the vacant fullback position. Vanney rarely plays 4-4-2,...but when he does guys like Cabral, Grandsir and Efrain who get placed in the left and right midfielder spots, are not great defenders. I mean they are not garbage, but when they get overlapped I don't get my hopes high that they will win a ball back. Again Edwards and Araujo are able to get back and defend really well so this helps. However this is not always the case and eventually they will burn out and reduce their willingness to overlap. So this leaves option 3. Now the problem with that though is getting either Delgado or Rayan need to determine which one of the 2 will be the guy fully committed to playing as a number 6 style center defensive midfielder. They are both pretty much 8 style center mids and are good enough defensively to play that spot but like Edwards and Araujo they prefer to attack more than defend. Because they do this so often it leaves our midfield stretched and places our 2 center backs in crappy situations all the time. Defensive situations that are exacerbated if a fullback that has advanced all the way into a wide forward position hasn't gotten back on defense in time just before a turnover in the midfield. However,...now that we have Brugman willing to commit to CDM when a fullback or central midfielder advances, this finally gives our center backs that much needed extra support and improves the team's overall defensive shape. In the last game the moment Brugman came out we reverted to the same defensive form issues we have struggled with all year. Vanney needs to be preparing Aguirre to be our fulltime CDM backup. He has shown that he is a much more willing defender than Rayan and Delgado and can very easily become that guy that feels that role off the bench.
Don't get too excited about Brugman. Yes he's disciplined about staying back but from what i've seen he is really slow afoot and doesn't get it about the need to close down wingers. He will stand off them 3 or 4 yards, giving them free crosses and free shots at goal.
All I want to see is some consistency. Give me good passing. Give me ball retention. Give me pace. Give me shots on goal. Give me hope. GALAXY!!!
These are the starters you're looking for.📝 https://t.co/EYXXji5BLM | #DALvLAG pic.twitter.com/TwrjRst4Pc— FC Dallas (@FCDallas) July 31, 2022 Dallas line up has been out for 25 minutes. Ours is MIA. Dallas is a good team. 4-4-2 with Jesus Ferrera more a false 9 I think.
Starting lineup is out! A 4-4-2 with Kevin Cabral up top. Hmmm. #LAGalaxy pic.twitter.com/QwtnyzmbsT— Mike Gray (@MikeGrayAFC) July 31, 2022
