Well, once again, the Revs try and win their second road game of the year, which would double last year's road win total. This time we're going to try and win in Philly ... the last time we were in Philly, we had one of our most embarrassing matches of the year, blowing a 3-0 and 4-1 lead and tying 4-4. Philly comes into this game having won three out of their last four (three game win streak was broken by a loss in the last game), while the Revs haven't won in their last three, and scored just once in that time. A Philly win would put them ahead of the Revs in PPG and head-to-head, but they're a mediocre team (overall) at home this year at just 4-4-1. TV/Radio The game is at 7pm on NBC Sports, and on 98.5 on the radio. There will be an away game viewing in Nashua, at the Nashua Garden.
He's finally off the Injury Report (after being "Probable" the past 2 weeks and not playing) so no excuses. If he doesn't play in this one, he's done for the year. Feilhaber is questionable with an ankle sprain - if he doesn't play it'll be interesting to see how the midfield/attack functions without him (I know they dominated in the LA game but that was when LA was a total defensive mess). If the Revs lose this one, officially stick a fork in the season - they'll have dropped too many points to catch Houston.
Still, without Moreno, who's up top? Sene has been undistinguished in that role, and if Guy is the answer, I'm a rotten egg. Looks like another star turn for Brettschneider, and another collective moan from his detractors. Really, if Pavlov were still alive, he wouldn't ring a bell, he'd merely say "Brettschneider."
Not sure if he's been injured or whatnot, but at this point, if he doesn't get in this game, you really have to wonder where he stands, don't you?
Probable and not making the bench at all. Now he is off the list and it will be interesting to see what happens. Being probable one would have to think he was getting in some full training, especially this week. I agree with a few people here, if he does not get any PT tomorrow, you have to start to wonder why he just wasn't released when Lozano was let go
My guess is the rationale for his retention was coverage in case Bengtson wasn't signed/had extended Olympic duty/got hurt, in addition to the public embarrassment of cutting him after his ridiculous transfer saga in the offseason. The bigger question isn't so much why he's still here as why, while he's still here, Brettschneider is apparently ahead of him on the depth chart. There's roughly an 1000% chance Moreno is gone once the season is over, which is probably why Imbongo was signed.
Could be........................It possible Imbongo was signed for that reason but I am guessing he is more of a project for next year like one rumor suggests
Not a great analogy IMO. Moreno is a guy who is in his prime and should be healthy and fit. It appears that he lacks some serious motivation and desire to be here/play. This doesn't really surprise me, given that it took him so long to arrive in New England (on a one year loan none the less) and because he reportedly tried to back out of the deal. Jankauskas is a guy who in his prime was twice the player that Moreno is; unfortunately, we signed Jank when he was a dinosaur. He was unable to stay healthy not by choice, but because he was an old man who shouldn't have been playing professional soccer. Don't slight Jank and associate him with Moreno, arguably the most dislikable Rev signing of all time IMO. On a side note, rkupp, are you finally ready to call this guy the biggest bust of the season? Or is Jeremiah White still more of a disappointment to you?
I've always thought it would be a fun separate thread (although one that would probably degenerate into name-calling, so maybe not) to discuss most dislikable bust of a Revs signing. For me, Moreno remains slightly ahead of Ousmane "I'm enjoying my paid American vacation very much" Dabo.
I'm already wondering! My guess is that it's because the Revs can't get out of the loan agreement - which I'm figuring requires the Revs to pay his salary. If he had been sold to us, we could probably dump his salary. One could have said the same thing about Lozano and McCarthy. It's more than just a case of whether one guy is better than another. With MLS rules, if you can fill a role with a young, cheap, domestic guy instead of a pricey foreigner, it's a big advantage. The international has to be much better, particularly for a team that is rebuilding/restructuring and probably not a serious contender this year. Lozano was better than McCarthy early in the year, but by giving McCa steady playing time, he's improved significantly and any gap there was between the two has mostly closed (and McCa should keep developing). I know people don't give Brettschneider much credit here, but I think he's got some talent and good physical ability and I think Heaps' reasoning is much the same - unless someone else is much better, he'd just as soon give BB the playing time to develop. We got a goal (at least) out of Moreno, that's better than nothing (White). If that's all we get, yes, I'll probably end up agreeing with you.
I tell ya, that Burnsie is a shrewd negotiator, I tell you whut! One might have thought that with all the drama of his initial signing, that they would have had the lawyers put some kind of escape clause into the contract. I dunno, even Helen Keller could see this coming, or at least the possibility of something like this happening. Signing a player, yes. But once both players are on the active roster, it really is a choice between the two players at the same position. While Bengston is away there is Sene and whoever else Heaps deems most worthy of minutes. His choices are to take a starter from somewhere else (Joseph, Nguyen, etc.), play Sene solo, or pair him with either Moreno or Brettschneider. Seeing who is getting the minutes speaks volumes. When it comes to game-to-game management, Heaps doesn't care what kind of contract the guy is on, all he cares about is who can best help the team win. It really does speak volumes that Brettschneider is getting minutes over Moreno. Credit to him for seizing the opportunity, since he will be on the bench once Bengston returns, but this should tell you all you need to know about the Moreno signing.
"José Moreno will not join them. The Colombian striker was excused from training for personal reasons and will not travel with the team to Philadelphia, according to Revolution general manager Michael Burns. Moreno did not play in either of the Revolution's two road matches last week despite making the trip and did not make the squad for the draw against Sporting Kansas City."Enough with this loser already. personal reason? Unless it's a death in the family or health issues, he should be in Philly, on the field, trying to pay back some of that money he has stolen from Kraft over the past 5 months
I have no idea why they didn't waive this guy. Jank, Perovic, Stolica, at least those guys wanted to be here.
Exactly what I was saying in another thread. Sure we've had our issues with a number of foreign signings, but they all seemed like good guys who wanted to be on the field contributing for the team. This guy is a bum who has no interest in being here.
Now now ... as we were told repeatedly when the rumors started that he didn't want to come here ... oh wait, they were wrong. Carry on.
