I agree with this. Its one thing to mock the sounders fans during the game and in the stands, its all in good fun then. I really enjoyed the "LA-GALAXY -- ******** SEATTLE" chant, but its another thing to start shit outside stadium. for example, during the pre-game tailgate, I saw one of our fans throw beer at sounders fans walking by. That was just a bit over the top IMO. honestly, I tip my hat off to them, I wish more MLS fans were that passionate about their team. The league and the growth of AMERICAN soccer in itself needs more people like them.
I don't know that many of the SoCal ppl given I've only been down for two SSFC matches at the HDC, but it's my understanding that most of them are Puget Sound area transplants and not natives. The banner was (AFAIK) a counter to a small rail banner that LARS hung that said "I don't always watch soccer, but when I do, I drink with the LA Riot Squad". Not sure who the person in LARS's banner is, but I suspect the counter banner/message had something to do with said person on LARS's banner. Looks like the problem was that the original banner was too small for anyone on the other end to distinguish, and thus the motiviation behind SoCal banner was lost as well.
At least he's not doing this: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86AJje3ElDc"]YouTube - gay funny referee[/ame]
Consider me an "apologist." I live in So Cal but am a Florida Marlins/ Panthers and a Miami Heat/ Dolphins fan. I was born in Florida. Blame my parents. In '96 I was a Tampa Bay Mutiny supporter. Two years after they folded my allegiance was planted with the Galaxy---and even if they expand to Miami or Tampa again, there's no way I could switch at this point. My blood forever pumps blue, white, and gold.
Okay then. If they're transplants, then it makes sense that they're the SoCal Sound cuz A) they're in SoCal and B) they're Sounders fans. I wouldn't expect them to switch allegiance. If the few are SoCal natives and are Sounders fans cuz it's the cool thing to do, well then what a surprise, huh?
I have no complaints whatsoever about Drew. He loves soccer and has been a great ambassador for the growth of our sport in the good ol' USA. And he didn't just talk the talk, he put his own money down when he has an opportunity to get in at the ground floor as the Seattle franchise came online. I just appreciate all the support he gave to the Galaxy until he got his own team.
Seconded. I had a quick talked with him when I was in the audience for a taping of The Price is Right after he saw me wearing my old school G's jersey. He's a soccer fan first and foremost.
