The post pre 2018 season continues. Rapids host drink salesmen from New York at 7PM, this Saturday, May, 12; @ the Dick. Post your predictions, in-game thoughts, and post game regrets here. I don't think I can make this one, which is a bummer because I like watching Sean Wright-Phillips and the NY RedBulls. TV is Altitude, so is radio (950AM). My prediction: Rapids give up a lead and tie in the end 3-3. At least it will be entertaining. Unfortunately we struggle at altitude
Does this team have prospects for improvement? I've already gotten to the point where I go into home games with low expectations. Even when they score first. Or maybe especially.
Sure, a couple of guys could have career best months in the summer/fall; and they could gel like the 2010 team and win the whole thing. It's possible. Badji has his moments.
The Red Bulls are a team that pressure you getting out of the bus and they are playing extremely well. The Rapids are a team that has trouble hanging onto the ball. Unless the foul-tasting drink company comes in here totally overconfident and quaking in fear of the altitude, this game has the potential to be a blowout. 3 - 0 NYRB and I can't wait to hear Hudson's excuses after this one.
Coming off the high of smashing NYCFC in the NY Derby can we catch NYRB in a trap game? Can the altitude and cross country trip play to the Rapids advantage? Those are questions that will have to be answered. NYRB is a respectable 2-2-2 on the road this season. BWP will do his thing and you have to be aware of him at all times. I am more worried about containing Kaku. He's beginning to hit his stride and everything offensively is starting to flow through him. He's an absolute handful. As for the Rapids, if you can get past the midfield duo of Sean Davis and Tyler Adams you are in luck. Davis and Adams cover a shit ton of ground but if you can push them wide and cause their CBs - Parker and Long - to cover more ground in front of them you can create the space to play the ball behind them. If we can do this Badji and Mason (or Bolli) will have chances.
I have a *little* hope for this one. Bear with me on the reasoning. Before the FSL game, I purchased a new Rapids cap from the sale rack at the new Scheels in Loveland. Since then, the Rapids have reverted back to 2017 form. So, I have decided to dump the new cap and go back to the one I was wearing for the earlier games (and was wearing in 2010). So, forget any on-field analysis. We have a good shot at winning simply because one fan in 108 changed his cap. rod.
Forget about selection, etc., here's important aesthetic info for the match: 👀 New socks debuting tomorrow.#Rapids96 | #COLvRBNY pic.twitter.com/3wwF1LYsER— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) May 11, 2018
Take it from @FlemingSport and @marcelobalboa17, there's no place like home.📝 Here's your guide to #COLvRBNY: https://t.co/DmI4tARngY https://t.co/Xll6QfTTOi— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) May 11, 2018
Considering the “feedback” Hudson got regarding his Colvey/McBean selection last time, I’d wager that he doubles down with a Homer Simpsonesque “In your face!!” and starts Colvey, McBean, as well as Scott Palguta, Jared Watts, and “Edu” Schmidt in a surprise return testimonial game for these Rapids stars from yesteryear. The deep state fanbase implodes after the ‘Pidd win 5-0. No, actually, I predict that the Rapids loss 2-1 after getting the opening goal... with hopes that I am wrong and Boli gets his first.
Have to agree with a 2-1 loss. Also have to select Badji for the goal since he's the only forward we know will play. It's a frustrating time.
Nowhere else we'd rather be on a Saturday evening. ⚽️ #COLvRBNY⏰ 7:00 PM 🏟️ @DSGpark 📺 @AltitudeTV 📻 @Altitude950 📝 https://t.co/va0KVSS3ZN pic.twitter.com/DIbdVFxCpi— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) May 12, 2018
That holds for the first half at least. Let's see if, for once, they want to be there the second half.
Still itching to see Boli get a start, but good to see him and Gashi in the 18. Boateng was very very avg (at best) on the wing against OSC....then again, no Colvey.
If Hudson is right about Boli being out of shape, this could be rough. It's tiring pressing and running after long balls.
